Is the Switch Kit worth the extra $100 over a one-piece Stiffi?

I want to get a new barrel, and for awhile now i've kinda had my heart set on the Stiffi Switch kit. But i'm starting to rethink dropping nearly two Bens on a barrel kit, so i'm wondering, is the extra $100 for the kit worth it over just getting a one-piece .691 Stiffi?

Assuming that you're talking about getting the barrel for a Vike, as I'd assume based on your sig, the answer is no. Get a large bore barrel and you're set-- I'd go with a .692 UL, as I don't believe you can get the 1 piece Stiffi in anything over .689, though I could be wrong.

I have a hard time justifying spending 200$ on a barrel, I think that there is little difference between them, I own a stiffi it is light and quiet but overpriced.
ebay has a guy that deals in stiffi stuff, all sizes and threads for less $$. He also sells switch kit's parts, so you can just buy the sleeve(I think you have to email him) and a couple bore sizes that you might use..save lots of money doing that.

If you go on PBN there is a guy who has been setting up group buys for the Switch kits. I ordered one for $150. He has done one GB in the past and everyone was happy. Maybe you can jump on his next one.

What Leatherpants said. Search for user mark_426 The GB has ended though but this is the 2nd one he's done in 2 months. I missed the first one. I have a .691" and a.689" coming for $75 shipped. That's $75 shipped! Best prices I've seen anywhere.

Check my thread. My prices are good, and the service is great.

There is also another option to your problem. Get a switch barrel and the biggest insert, that way you have the beginnings of the kit and can buy inserts later, but you still have the barrel you want. I will sell you those parts for the same price as a 1 piece $80 shipped.

I see it says barrels 80$,
is that the price for a regular stiffi barrel, or the "switch barrel length".
                    - How much do the different "switch" barrels cost.

i personally have not shot a stiffi yet that can outperform an ultralight. buy ultralight .688 and .692 backs and a 14" front and your set.

I don't believe in barrel kits. Get a .691 and be done with it.

Agreed with everyone who says barrel kits are overrated. Get a big bore i.e. over 689, and be done with it.

In general you don't have to buy a kit. If you usually shoot the same paint or in general "good" paint you're fine.

I did have one instance that I did a 3 man tourney. Guess what the paint we had to buy from the event sized .695+ HUGE. People were having problems all day. Luckly the Evil Pipe kit I had went up to .695. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have consistent barrel breaks.

If you want to get a kit and have the money why not. Not like we don't waste enough money on this sport as it is.

I just recieved my Stiffi Switch kit from the guy on PBN. Took about a week. $150 shipped isn't bad for any kit.

Why did I get it? No idea. It's light and it makes my car faster.......

So now I have a UL kit that I made, an Evil Pipe kit I'm trying to sell and this Switch kit. I'm a barrel whore not a gun whore.
