    dm4 vs. dm5 vs. proto

hey it had to happen sooner or later

what are the differences beside cost (proto is 950, dm4 is 1150, dm5 is 1350)?
i know the proto has plastic eye covers, uses a different bolt and comes with an inferior barrel to the ultralight, whereas the dm4/5 use the dye ultralight
any weight comparisons, bolt differences (i know the dm4 and proto use different bolt but not sure on the dm5) board comparisons (stock) efficiency, design (proto looks like air routing is different in the gun) overall performance and anything else i missed
if there is already a thread just link me to that, thanks

Performance is really going to be identical on all 3.

Efficiency is going to be nearly identical on all 3.

Weight is going to be similar on all 3. I think the DM5 is 4 oz lighter than the DM4 (1/4 pound). The Proto is somewhere in the middle. Same goes with size... DM5 is a little smaller, Proto is in between.

I don't think the barrel matters that much, but that's because I'd go with a barrel kit, and I think ultralites are overrated.

The DM5 comes with a roller bearing trigger, and I've heard the Proto does as well. That is a bit of an advantage, but CP makes an awesome roller trigger for the DM4.

Best buy is the Proto. They're all about equal in just about all ways, but the Proto is cheaper.

basicall the difference between the dm5 and dm4 is the milling and a little of the internals. the proto is basically just a little abelow the dm4, as you see the price is not as hard on you, which is a good thing. as fsu said the better over all buy would probably be the proto, evn though i believe it has a different board than the dm5 (correct me if i am wrong.) from what i have heard the dm4/5 have a little better air effency, obviously becuase of the bolt. also the weight is lighter, on the dm5 but only by a little as mentioned earlier. the plastic eye covers are not that big of a deal unless you want to anno everything. but other than that, they are all basically the same. i would rater go with the dm5 because i really am in love witht he new design... i really think the person who designed them made them look awesome... even though dye really hyped people about it. Also the body is a little smaller, but not to the reality that you would really notice it in a game.

            Differences

The proto is just like the Dye Trix. It comes with a pretty weak barrel and no locking feedneck. This adds up to about a 150.00 initial investment after you buy the marker. You can use the stock barrel and feedneck but Dye knows 80% of people are going to upgrade and most likely buy their stuff
The DM5 is supposed to have a shorter bolt. This would make life difficult for people like evolve who just got the DM4 bolt into beta testing. Now they changed it. Bummer for them.
Overall Dye says better chip logic in the Dm5 meaning to the majority of players no noticeable difference. To the few people that tweak their setup to the max this is cool. Anyway all three will be very good markers. I would not worry about buying the proto right away since the fuse bolt has been proven and the bugs worked out. Should be a great marker.

I shot both the proto and dm5. Proto felt better to me.
