    Sydarm Questions

I am thinking of purchasing a sydarm, but have alot of questions.
This is a link to Airgun.com. My questions are regarding this sydarm version.

Do they use twist lock barrels or is the barrel fixed?
    How long is the barrel?
    How accurate are they?
How low is the velocity regulated.
Can the velocity be up regulated by a mod?
    Does it break/chop paint?
Can it be fitted with a LX and does it need one?
Is the valve a classic, rt or other?
How many shots per 12g before velocity drop off?
    Which O rings are "Special"?
    Can a ULT be fitted?

Very interested in responses from people who own one.

Do they use twist lock barrels or is the barrel fixed?

    Centerfeed Twistlock barrels

    How long is the barrel?

    ~6"

    How accurate are they?

as accurate as any gun with paint matched to the barrel.

How low is the velocity regulated.

If your lucky you may get up to 285 FPS

Can the velocity be up regulated by a mod?

    Not really

    Does it break/chop paint?

As much as any non L10 mag, just 100x harder to clean out

Can it be fitted with a LX and does it need one?

    No and yes.

Is the valve a classic, rt or other?

Sydarms use a Sydarm specific Valve.

How many shots per 12g before velocity drop off?

Before any drop off? maybe 2. Before effective frop off? Maybe 10.

    Which O rings are "Special"?

    Most

    Can a ULT be fitted?

Yes but you get a shortstroke problem

I'll answer the questions I can, though I'm not a Sydarm expert. If I get anything wrong, someone will correct me.

-Do they use twist lock barrels or is the barrel fixed?
      It's a Centerfeed twistlock, I think.

      -How long is the barrel?
      looks about 4"-6"

      -How accurate are they?
      Don't know. Haven't shot one.

-How low is the velocity regulated.
      I beleive I read it's about 275-ish.

-Can the velocity be up regulated by a mod?
      Dunno.

      -Does it break/chop paint?
No worse than a classic mag.

-Can it be fitted with a LX and does it need one?
Npt sure, but I doubt you'll need one, since you probably won't be rapid firing much. Just don't short stroke it.

-Is the valve a classic, rt or other?
It's a Sydarm valve, which is an application specific variant of the Classic valve.

-How many shots per 12g before velocity drop off?
      I think about 20-25

      -Which O rings are "Special"?
      Dunno

      Can a ULT be fitted?
I don't think so. At least not without modifcation.

EDIT: DOH! Posted while I was typing...
      My feedback is available here.

Love those things. used them in a Sydarm comp. at AONJ4, they performed excellent. Fairly accurate and nice to work with. The balls will roll out the paint is too small, but then you just need to adjust the nubbins.
Hey, look at that! It's Santa!

I've had an old model and made an interesting discovery... Mine shoots much better with a Classic valve on/off top. Dunno about the new ones, but mine came with an on/off hat that had the center hole, and crossed grooves on the upper face rather than a pair of holes drilled through the middle laterally.

If you're having problems, try replacing this and see if it doesn't help.

If your worried about effiency Brad at paintballmaxx can put a spacer in the dump chamber to give a few more shots off a 12 gram. He does great work, he had done this for my pump mag and it went up about 3-5 shots per 12 gram. Not all that much really. It is a bit labor intensive so its not very cheap.

As far as paint-breakage I could see it being better than a normal non-level 10 mag just because its spring feed and that eliminates blow-back issues.

Sydarms in general will freeze up under any type of rapid fire situation, so shoot slow and make them count. One day I'll own a sydarm, one day...

I've have several sydarms and I've also owned many of the other semi pistols. With the exception of the Squall, I would like to check that out some day but heard it's pretty bulky and heavy even compared to the sydarm.

But by far with my own personal testing, The Sydarms kicked *** on all the others. I've gotten on average 2+ loads on my sydarms (about 20 shots) before serious shoot down. But then again it's usually warm here in Bake-O. If you got cold 12grams you'll have less shots available to you. As most stock players know. Also as was mentioned earlier, you gotta make your shots count as it Holds 8 shots at a time, and that's with one in the breech. As for Velocity, that's where it kicks butt on all the others (sidekick,PT Enforcer, PT Extreme, I forgot the others) I've actually gotten mine to 285 fps with no probs. Never tried any higher, wasn't necessary. It's got a short barrel for a reason - That's for close firing. The only thing I don't like about my Sydarms (and I love them dearly) is that they are pretty heavy - I have benchmark grip frames on them and they weigh about 3lbs 4oz each and that's Loaded with balls and 12gram. That's heavy when it's riding on your leg. But like I said, I love them - they shoot great and if you play at night, this is the perfect gun for it. As well as being used for close quarters play. It's really cool doing the old action and everyone comments on it when they see it.

If you do happen to get one, you won't regret it. I'd recommend cutting down the 10 ball Stock tubes to hold only 8 so you don't have to worry about 2 extra balls when reloading.
