    Dye backs and tips?

What's the point of a .692 back if all the tips are a standard .688?

not all paintballs are a perfect .688 some are a little bigger and some a little smaller. that's why they make barrel kits (ie freak, pipe, switch ect.) so you can match the actual size of your paint to the barrel and have better accuracy. some ppl don't think they work, others swear by them. you pretty much have to decide for yourself if you think it's worth it.

      I already have a kit.

The reason why I ask, I am thinking of picking up a Dye tip with the 3 backs, .684/.688/.692..... BUT.. If the tip is .688, having a .692 back doesn't mean squat because the bore is getting smaller when it hits the tip.

      make sense?

For example, shooting paint in the cold.. too tight of a bore will prob result in alot of barrel breaks. Having a tip smaller than your control bore is bad news for that.

        that's because the tips aren't .688....

That's what I thought, but the info on PBGear has them listed as such..

Dye barrel tips are now available separately. We offer a wide selection of colors and sizes: 10", 12", 14", 16", 18" in red, blue, clear, or classic black. Mix and match backs and tips for any situation or look.

          Features:

Micro-honed perfection equals perfection in accuracy
Threaded at a compound angel to ensure perfect alignment every time
Traditional Dye straight porting that is quiet and classic
          Dye trademarked muzzle break
          Standard bore size of .688
Fits Dye IS, Ultralite, and Titanium barrel backs
Websites have been wrong before..... Just going by what they said, though.

thats most likely a mistake on there part if you took a paintball and tryed to put it through a tip it will most likely roll right out.

I've just sent an email to my friend at Dye asking for clarification. I'll post it up when I get his response.

I have a big .694 back on my ultralite, and the front
still looks bigger than the back.

I dont think the front even has to be close to the bore size.
Ive seen people play with just freak backs and it was just
                as accurate.

The only reason for different front lengths
is for speedball and how much u want the barrel to stick
                out and wrap the bunker.

It would only make sense that the tip should be bigger than the biggest back they offer but it didn't hurt to ask.. IF indeed the tips are now .688, i wouldn't spend the money on a .692.

i believe that the dye tips are .688, i think its just dye's way of screwing people on barrels. thats why i got the macdev matchstick, equivalent to the ultralite but the fronts are i believe somewhere between .695-.697 when i measured them.

The tip of any barrel kit is generally bigger then the largest boar that comes with it for that exact reason that you mentioned.

                        Dye tips are almost .700

                        Most tips are similar.
