Proto arrived

Got it this week. I dry fired it but haven't played with it yet... will do so on sunday. Overall I'm very impressed with the quality of the marker and from the few shots I fired it shoots great with minimal kick. Only complain is that I wish it was as easy to set-up the trigger like my Bushy was.

Why is the Proto under $1000, and DM4's over a grand? I hate the DM4 in pics, but when I saw it at the 04 World Cup, I liked it..................

IMO, the proto is every good as a DM5, much less a DM4, it costs less because it has the proto name on it rather than the DYE label, and thats preety much it as far as i can see, i actually prefer the proto over teh DM series for the little i have used either.

Great gun, great value.

All the DM's perform basically the same,4/5/Proto,the difference in the price of the Proto is reflected in the fact that is doesn't include the Dye UL barrel,Locking feedneck,Dye Airport ASA, somewhat less costly eyes and a 'flash' only board (no replaceable chip).

It IS a great performer for someone looking to save a few bucks yet it can be fully up'd to near DM5 specs for less overall investment.

I never knew the eyes were different. Anyways, the rest is correct from what I can remember.

Yes, the eyes in the proto are on ribbons rather than wires, not a big deal if you ask me, and, i agree, clamping feedneck should be bought asap, but, who dosent have their own asa already? Or spare/better cocker threaded barrels, not things which are hard to come by. If i were buying a DM5, or a proto, i would get the proto for the money, i also think it balances nicer than the DM5, but, that once again is personal preferance.

Nothing major,they're ribbon cabled instead of hard wired.It seems as though that connection may be more fragile.

Just be very carfefull taking it apart for cleaning and maintainance.Unplug when ever you can and don't allow 'stuff' to dangle by the wiring while working on it and you should be fine.
