It would seem that the "smart people" have become disenfranchised by the current climate of paintball. Custom to most newer players means aftermarket parts on their shiny new electro gun. The mainstream of paintball doesnt appreciate odd, unique or one-off items anymore.

In Doc's case, I would say a good portion of the problem is that he lives in the middle of nowhere Alaska, and gets little fuel for the paintball passion, when the nearest field is two hours away. If he wants to remain sane, he needs to come down to NPS and recharge his batteries.

EDIT - To quote one of my posts on Doc's:
          "Doc + Simon(Manike) x NPS = OMG TOYS!!!"

It's that but what I mean by "smart people" is people that think outside of the box. Who was the first one to put a regulator in the same place as the bolt? Manufacturers today don't think the same way. Oh market isn't doing well? Let's make another spyder knock off, except let's mill a little more from the bolt!

Doc, you have always been held in very high esteem, specifically for some of the points you raised. It takes bigger balls than I have to set off on your in business, in something you're passionate about. Many have the uptmost respect for you.

I can understand the frustrations of running your own show. If it proves to be too much, than step back. If the flames re-ignite, all the better.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Doc I barely know of you much less to say that I know you or your situation. But at the same time I DO know your situation. There is a simple fact that work almost always sucks for everyone. Thats why its called work. Many of us worry about our job, even in our off hours. I deal with bullcrap all day and then into the night also. Wondering and worrying about little details and whether XXX customer is going to say something about YYY to ZZZ.

If you think that switching to the Home Depot(whatever corporate box you decide to employ yourself with) is going to make work into a fairyland of delight and eternal happiness, you might want to think again. Not going to happen. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

I wouldn't waste your 7+ years of experiance in this field(machine work) just to go become some brainless dillweed clerking at the "crib". If nothing else put your talent and experiance to use within the same field but different product.Diversify, paintball is not all there is.....

There are MANY people who would love to be able to work at something they enjoy (or have enjoyed) the way you do. Be their own boss, make their own hours, their own decisions. I think you have on a set of blinders. Financial trouble is part of the game with small buisiness. But can you truly imagine having a 9-5 at some place that won't be any better, actually much worse, taking orders from some kid with a power trip and his head up his ***?

Think about what you are truly giving away.

We should all hail the master of the custom world. Ive been waiting to get the cash and an idea that was really cool, but now my chance may be over. Good luck and i hope you find something you really like doing, or you find a new inspiration for custom paintball work again.

Doc. I hear ya man. Been there done that. Am there right now...still doing it. It certainly isn't easy. I say you do a 9:00 to 4:30 for a while. After 4:30 grab a beer and shut it down. Weekends belong to you. Go catch some of those big Salmon you got over there. Fire that snowmobile up and head the hell out!
Like TK always said. "Paintball is ugly on the inside...dont get involved". I know now what he was saying. It takes up SOOO much time and you dont get much for it. Chill for a while, and dont let the little bastards get to you. Custom work takes time. And you are the Master of Custom. Best of luck to you Doc in whatever you decide. Let me know if you want to take a drive out to NJ this summer and we go catch some big Tuna's! and let me know if you need anything...anything at all.

Sorry to hear it Doc. I've always admired your work on-line. Dreaming of dropping down the cash to get something "special" from you one day. I hope one day I will have at least the chance to again. I wish you the best of luck in all your endevours. Take it easy and try to enjoy yourself. Take care.

                              Doc,

Having been down that same road (for 16 years) I know how you feel. Take Tuna's advise and chill out for a while. Paintball has changed dramatically in the last 5 years, its not the same as it was before. It will make more sense once you get away and can look at it from the outside. Thats when you can make a better decision on which way to go.

                              Good luck
