    Howdy folks

I've spent the better part of the evening perusing the forums and trying to get caught up. Its been probably 7 years since I consistently played and I'm getting back into the swing of things since my nephew has discovered the game.

Backgrounding aside. I've always used a mag, I bought one my second time out and probably ran 50k balls through it with no problems in 3 years of play, so I'm addicted to ADG. But, as I said its been 7 years so I'm way far behind the times when it comes to mags and to say the least I'm in a bit of awe at the advances the guns have made.

Basically, what I'm looking for is a place to get reaquainted with the current mags, what goes with what, etc. Going from 4 variant frames for a mag that were all virtually identical, to specific gear that varies from frame to rail to mainbody. Is there a "magfaq" (wow that looks bad) out there anywhere? Or anyone able to give some insight into the variations in mags? Most of the descriptions i've found don't give information in terms that would throw back to the info that I do understand.

    Thanks in advance

I just started getting into mags (and picked up my first). I can't say I've found any ONE place for info. Just lots of reading and coffee . And you've already got a head start seeing as though you are already familiar with mags in general. Welcom to the forum and back to paintball.

                Howdy as in the south

Around 500-600$, woods and speed. I already have a barrel, 8in Armson. I was never a fan of vented barrels like the old all-americans. I dig the 6 and 8in Armson for the audible report. themagsmith.com helped unravel alot of the stuff I was running into with the order configuration.

From what I'm seeing now, its almost better to build your gun from the ground up. Mainbody, trigger/grip, rails etc.

Couple things I'm seeing now is that AGD is leaning towards cocker threads over twist and lock? for example:

Polished aluminum, custom milled slugbody and rail will fit Automags, Minimags and RTPros. Cocker barrel threads, Angel ball detent and feed tube threads.
                (description from the Karta)

I always prefered the twist and lock cause you could clean the barrel faster if you had an ugly breech bust. While looking sexier than a New York escort, cocker threads are turn off.

Right now, the build I'm looking at starting with is the Karta Black. Does the Karta include the mainbody mounting? As in the black piece between the grips and main body on the old mags. It used to be called a rail, but it looks like that name was ganked by sight rails more than this bit of drilled metal. What Mainbody would ya'll recommend? Preferrably with Twist/Lock

Another question that will get a giggle: What the frog is an Intelliframe? I couldn't swing a dead cat and not hit 9 places selling them, but none of them offer a good description of what it actually does. All i know is its a trigger & grip! I prefer the 45 cal frame style vs the Y-grips. While Y's make more sense with the way the gun is held, it doesn't feel right in my hands and I couldn't hammer the trigger as well. Although, that might be old age/practice. I gather this is an electric grip. Are there non-electrics that compare? I'm rather rough on guns. What grip/trigger would you recommend?

Next, X-Valve. Something better I should look at?

I'm not a fan of on-gun air. I always ran into the issue of my arms getting tired after 7-8 hours of play even with hosed air, I can't imagine on-gun...

                Gas through fore grip.

At this point I'm at a dead-end. I want to avoid Reactive trigger stuff. No offense intended to those that use it, but I think its a bit over the top. I might rethink this if its ultimately game breaking even in rec-ball vs tourny players. I might still have traditionalist values, but getting ripped stings the pride and cultivates competitve spirit. Recommendation of the ones in the know?

I remember reading long ago, that the Mag was based on the Model 1911 .45 cal pistol, at least in part. The 45 is still one of the best guns to ever be manufactured and its design is relatively unchange in 100 years. I want to maintain that style of ruggedness, accuracy, and "make-you-think-twice" power in my mag.

I'm an open canvas, with few hang ups, the the feedback flow

ok to get you started the intella frame is a 45 grip frame tha tis used in conjustion with a warp feed so when you pull the trigger a switch in the frame is thrown and the warp feeds a ball y grip samething just diferent shape the x valve is just like the rt valve but its made of aluminum instead of stainless as far as not wanting reactive trigger i believe that a ule trigger pull kit is designed to ge trid of the mechanical bounce as its called by the people who know nothing abou tmags you know it as reactive umm wow still want your twist lock more power to you man i witch between both myself depending on what i am playing and playing with i love my armagedon barrel honestly dude go with what you like if your gona runa warp io suggest a intella if you ever want to switch to electro run with an emag im really tuff on guns myself and i havent broken one of my e's yet but i got 3 so the abuse is spread out umm thats all i can really think of man other then welcome back to the wonderful world of paintball and welcome to AO

So the Mag Smith is a reputable dealer? I've heard good things about him. Also, does he have a phone order # or is it just online?

All the dealers that we commonly use here at AO are good to go. Tuna , Devilsden, logic, mag smith & AGD are the biggies.

You won't believe how the weights of things have changed. You were saying stuff about your arms getting tired, don't worry about that anymore. Thanks can be as low as 2lbs, they are insanely lighter compared to 7 years ago.

Hello, and welcome to AO. I am also just getting back into the sport though I didn't take quite as long of a break.

I was also a fan of twist-lock barrels but they are getting harder and harder to find. In all honesty, I haven't had to take off my barrel anymore after the Level 10 bolt because it eliminates chopping. That's the main reason I used to almost need a twist lock was because of chopping balls and being able to quickly remove the barrel to clean it. Plus, all the newer light weight bodies are cocker threaded I believe.

I would also suggest buying a pre-built mag from people such as Tunaman, Rogue, or Coolhand because it will be much cheaper than buying the parts yourself and building one...they can just get the parts cheaper, I believe. I just spent $700 or so on parts to build my own mag...granted I did buy a Dallara body. I am now going to sell all of that stuff because I'm getting an emag made by Tunaman. The point is, I am parting out the stuff to buy a pre-built marker because it comes out cheaper in the end...not to mention these guys can do some amazing things with an Automag.

The typical mech mag that people usually like seems to be one with a ULE body (either AGD or Deadlywind), a Y-grip or Intelliframe, X-Valve (comes with Level 10...no chopping), and a ULT trigger (you lose reactiveness and also make the trigger pull very light.) You end up with a very light marker that is very fast (for a mech) and doesn't chop. The level 10 does require tuning from time to time so it may require a little more maintenance than you were probably once used to with a mag, but nothing you can't learn in under and hour. Not to mention, once you learn to tune level 10, it's very easy and very quick to tune every time after that.

But, take all this for what it's worth. I am also just getting back into things and am just trying to help based off of what I've researched in the last month or so. I could be wrong or have missed a few things. The good thing is, you've come to the right place because even if I've missed a few things, there are plenty of people who are much wiser and smarter than me here that will happily help you out.

Welcome back to paintball and, once again, welcome to AO.

                            Forgot this:
