I was thinking, do you think it would be a good idea if someone makes a metal shell for the ions?? I mean, a nice looke, and millable. With all the people buying them, there has to be some money there. Anyone want to start a buisness??? :)
Ion project.

Honestly.
One slip-on body later and you may as well have bought a more expensive marker with fancy milling and anno in the first place.
The lookism, flash, dazzle, and gadgetude of paintball is pathetic, paintball has become a gathering place for ricers....... -
its not crappy plastic but thats anothe story...SP has said that the shells should run about 30 bucks so thats not the same amounts as a "fancy anno"
Manike-It's still early days. One thing for sure is that the future is going to be interesting, and we intend to be a BIG part of it.Comment

The shell's actually pretty nice, it doesn't ding/dent/scratch like aluminum. Interesting thing I found was that the trigger frame/lower reciever is all a single piece of cast aluminum that's been milled out. I imagine that the only thing on the Ion that's milled 100% is the bolt. Looks like SP learned a lesson from WGP and Tippmann to produce pieces cheaply.

Ya...they need to get into the cheap market...even though the ions in no way are beginner guns...i do not know any people that could actually afford one (unless it took forever). when they started.Originally posted by VFX_FenixThe shell's actually pretty nice, it doesn't ding/dent/scratch like aluminum. This is very true. I know when I started playing I spent a good chunk on a Spyder TL in '98 to get me rolling, even then it wouldn't have been enough for me to buy an Ion plus all my other stuff. Now if I were looking at a Trinity serries, there's a gun that I would have definately been able to swing when I bought my first gear.
EDIT: Trillogy

Actually all the Alumium parts in that gun are milled/lathed there are no cast parts.
The back wall is Delrin or some other hard plastic. The grip frame / ASA are billet stock. Ill be back up at the factory and Ill take a camera and snap a few pics of the machines they have working up there.
YOu should see the bar stock they start out with for a shocker : )
