    powdercoat removal?

I recently had a friend powdercoat a Minimag body for me. It looks good, but he coated the insides too, and now it won't fit in the rail, and the valve won't fit in the body. Does anyone know how I can strip the inside of the body to return it to the original ID?

yikes...have fun with that. I've stripped powdercoat off of bike frames before and I used commercial paintstripper. I know you can probably sand it out or if you could get a wire brush in the body you could do that too. How every powdercoat loads up sandpaper VERY fast and getting a hone or wirebrush in there would be tough. Maybe a small break rotor hone....but then again it's gonna get loaded up with powdercoat.

    Good luck

Get some good duct tape and mask off the bottom portion and hit it with a wire wheel.
Same goes for the inside, slighty larger dia. wire wheel.

Jef for the rail part.. REALLY sharp razor blades , and dont forget to rethread the mounting point if powder coat got into that.. 10-32 is the tap size.

As for the inside of the body.. theres these great dremel bits Ive been using for that purpose for a while.. I belive theere called Buffing Sanders or something.. They look sorta like a buffing wheel made of out small strands of string , the strings have some grit to them.. They come in a two pack like 1000 grit , and 1500 grit , ones tan and one is dark brown... Great stuff they polish the surface and remove paint and grime. Ive used them on my powder coated tippmanns..

Ill see if I can get an exact name of what they are for you

Throw it in a bucket of thinner leave it overnight Should come off easy after that. You want to scratch the finish a couple times to alow the thinner to penetrate under the powdecoat.

The mailorder company "Eastwood" sells a product called, "Dekote" that is intended to remove powdercoats.

Thanks guys. I was able to clean it up with a wire brush on a dremel-tool.

That's why my Minimag body was only coated on the outside and the part that rests on the rail is the original color.

Yeah, that was smart. My friend is new to paintball, and the only gun he had worked on before was his own M98, which has a lot more open spaces to it.

my suggestion would be to get it sandblasted. some people may have them in their garages. you can find them probably at any machinist shop and at highschool shops. you may have to get it re-coated if places that arent supposed to get blasted, get blasted.

since the problem has been solved, i guess this applies to anybody else in the same situation.

There is some stuff that Sherwin Williams sells called "Bix" that will strip powdercoat pretty easily. It will burn your bare skin pretty badly if it comes in contact with it.
Put a little on, wait till it bubbles up and rinse off with water. You're done.
