problems with my PMI air tank. please help.

its been a nice tank since christmas, but now it decided to make me angry.
the day before AO norcal vs socal, i went to IIsports to get it filled, and the guage crapped out on me; the little needle fell off.
then on the second day of norcal vs socal, i had just gotten it filled, and then needed to take the tank off, and so i tried, and it was REALLY REALLY hard to unscrew, then all of a sudded, the shiney silver bonnet started to seperate from the rest of the reg on the tank.
the bonnet screws on, and is locked in place with set screws. so i think the set screws started slipping.
my dad proposed that we take the bonnet off, find where the set screws are supposed to line up, and then drill a small indentation into the metal where the screws tighten down.
then put it back together and the screws would sit in those grooves so they cant slip.
i think its a bad idea because we are dealing with 4500 psi.
but my dad claims that he knows alot about this stuff, and thinks it would be a good idea.
we are both skilled at useing tools and could do it.
do you think we should go ahead with it? or what. cuz now there is galling on the inside of the regualtor.
should i send it back in and get a new tank?

being a cheap wad, and a machinist, I would normally say, go for it, it should work. BUT unfortunatly SHOULD, could get you or someone else killed. My suggestion, would be get a hold of PMI, they have excellent customer service and will probably take great care of you, because it's a relatively new item.

The ASA should never have been that tight that the regulator halves separated before the bottle came off the gun. Make sure there are no burrs in the ASA. Put a tiny bit of lithium grease on the threads to make them run better.

Don't drill the reg at all. In the event of a failure, you could be held liable.

For any other failures, ie guage, send to PMI and have them replace it. Their customer service is good.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.
