    Losing Pressure...?

Hey, I got a full fill to 3000 Sunday before I left the field, haven't had a chance to use it, and now find my pressure going down about 100psi a day. Is this normal? Does it happen to you guys too?

    Thanks,
    D

    Not 100 psi a day.

Stick it in a sink full of water and check for leaks(tiny bubbles ) . Usually around the gauge or the burst disc/s.

hmm, ill check it tomorrow when i get some free time. How would I fix it if it had a leak around the gauge/burst disc? Empty the tank and re-teflon? or replace with new parts?

As the temperature cools and the tank settles, your pressure will change. A 3000 psi fill is usually as low as 2700-ish psi.

Dont put it underwater unless you want to deal with some problems with the regulator. And I dont think the bottle should go underwater either. You could, but I don't recommend it.

Bursts discs only need to be torqued correctly. ~50lbs.

The guage would need to be pulled and resealed with either teflon or thread sealer if it's just the threads, unless it's leaking thru the glass/lens, then it would have to be replaced.

BTW, water won't hurt a thing, especially if there's any pressure in the tank.

So should I have pressure in the tank or not when I go to sink it?

            Thanks,
            D

Gotta have pressure or you won't see the leak.

Don't use your ears to check for leaks. You don't want any seals to pop with your ears that close. Either submerge it, or put some soapy water on suspect areas.

Hey all, I dunked my tank and found bubbles coming from the threads of both the fill nipple and gauge...

Can this be easily fixed? I have teflon tape and thread locker. Could I just unscrew the fill nipple and gauge (when the tank is empty of course) and re-teflon/threadlock them? Or do you think I have to send it to Centerflag to get it fixed? It would seem simple enough to just unscrew them, teflon them, and screw them back in, but will anything important possible fall out or something if I do this?

                  Thanks for the help,
                  D

Shouldn't be a problem, but I prefer blue loctite to teflon tape. It is cleaner looking and you don't have to worry about any gettingh inside.

                        What they said.

Glad you tracked it down. I use Locktite 5454 thread sealer but yeah, any of it will work. If you teflon tape make sure you trim off ANY exceess that would other wise be loose inside the Reg.

if you test for leaks on an empty tank.. you can get water in the tank. BAD
