    Good PB2X Articles on Cheating

Articles in Paintball Magazines aren't always the most informative if you have played for any length of time, but these are some of the best I've ever read. Much of this has been talked about in various threads on AO, but it's nice to see someone outside of here discussing these issues. I've never fully understood all of the debounce, mbounce, ramping and such, since I've never owned an electro, and these articles cleared up a lot for me. They also spell out how the cheating is hurting the sport, and could kill it off.

The author (Larry Janecka) also dispels the rate of fire myth (funny quote: "Slowly say the words "one thousand," and in that time span do ANYTHING (blink, drumroll, fart) 19 times. You can't without help."), and *gasp* takes on HK. I have to give him credit for writing about things that will definately cause him some heartburn. Anyway, the two online articles are:

    Cheaters Among Us Part 1A
Cheaters Among Us Part 1 and

Cheaters Among Us Part 2 is in the May 2005 Paintball 2 Xtremes.

I just picked up the May PB2X, so I'm looking forward to the article. I haven't read the first two yet...so I guess I'll get on it.

Very, very interesting - I wonder what the feedback from the community in general is going to be (or already is)?

Very well written and considerate. I especially like the disclaimer that some things may be legal in places that are nto in others. My only trivial fault wtih the entire article was the self gratifying statement about this being real journalism - I think it was just a well written account of things already in the public knowledge and nothing really new. That being said it is a trivial fault. Good article

Not to knock the article, which overall I was very pleased with and was well written

Talking about the "dark" side of paintball may scare some people, but not talking about it will make things worse. We know these risks, yet we must proceed. Why? For one simple reason - it is too dangerous NOT to write this.
This is self serving and self gratifying. I do not feel it has the need to be in any real "journalism". This is fluff, worse its almost "hypish" in nature. Not that I personally have anything against hype in advertising and promotion, but to me it really doesn't belong in an article as well written as this one. Its hyping your own article in what is supposed to be "journalism". I don't like it, doesn't mean it is horribly wrong, I just don't think it belongs in an article that is given out as journalism, its advertising hidden in an informative article.

Well, a lot of the content of the articles (especially 1a) are opinion, or OP-ED I guess, and I don't necessarily agree with everyting there. Most journalism anymore is full of opinion and shallow on facts. The magazine article has more "details" than the other two. I think they are positive, however, for bringing these issues to light in a "mainstream" paintball publication. Like I stated before, we've seen most of this on AO previously.

Agreed and I have no problem with OP-ED.. but even OP-ED is generally not as self gratifying as the part I pointed out was.

Don't get me wrong on what i have said... I liked it enough that I will look into a subscription tonight, and at least pick up this particular issue. Just because I like something does not mean it is without flaws. Just because I dislike something does not mean it is without strengths.

Haha, HK doesn't do mods to guns anymore.

They may have done some mods to timmy switchs to make them lighter, then they started putting WAS boards in Angel Speeds for Dynasty because sensi sucked, then they stopped.

They sponsored by smart-parts (Hostile Kids) and their second team is sponsored by WDP (The Edge)

Think it's a bit out of date...

Well, personally, he really ticked me off when he dogged hunting in one of the articles, and shows that he has NO understanding of conservation, so it doesn't surprise me that some of his info may be off. He also made "outlaw" games sound like something bad (although he did specify non-chrony) when a pretty high percentage of the sport today is probably "outlaw" or private games. I'm not "in the know" on tournament things enough or recent paintball history to catch the other innaccuracies.

Lohman446, I've thought about subscribing too, since it is the only paintball magazine I consistently pick-up. The others just don't do it for me, though I buy them on occassion.
