    Ebay and Paypal Time Limits

I hate Paypal, lemme start with that.

Ok, here's the question I would like some help with. I bid on an auction for an older Black Magic Cocker (Project Parts), upon winning said auction the seller stated that they only accepted Paypal. I had someone else do the transaction for me and I simply gave the person a check.
Well, here's the deal. It's been five days since the payment was made via Paypal and the seller hasn't claimed the payment. The lady who did the Paypal transaction for me is wondering if this seller will collect or not as it's screwing up her Paypal balance. She sells a ton of stuff of Ebay and wants to reconcile her accounts...I asked her to cancel the payment and I'll take the negative feedback as the seller has not made any effort whatsoever to contact me to make sure all is well and that my package is going to ship. I will let them know that if they want to I will send a Money Order or Cashier's Check as I am not about to waste another five days on a deadbeat seller. I am most annoyed and have never had such a lousy time trying to buy something...Was I too hasty in canceling the transaction?

What would you have done? Please refrain from lame posts like " Dude, I woulda bought a mag instead" because I own two ULE Mags still. Holla back AO.

    I would have waited.

IMO, your friend who made the payment is making it too big a deal out of one payment left unreconsiled. If she really does that much Paypal business, she should realize that's a regular occurance and should be prepared to give the seller ample time to respond. (5-10 business days min IMO before you back out).

Sometime online deals take a little time, they aren't all lickity split. That's the trade off you make for an 'online' deal.

I agree, I would have waited a little longer as well. Especially since it wasn't claimed. It could mean that you payed via credit card, and the seller doesn't want to upgrade there account? But since the money wasn't claimed, you haven't actually lost any money yet. And you do have 30(maybe 45) days to file claims with paypal if it turned out to be a bad deal. I would contact the seller and tell them what is going on and see if you can finalize the deal. Good luck

I had a deal similar to this. I sent the money threw paypal and the seller collected, but 3 weeks went buy and I never recived what I ordered (a nitro tank). I tried contacting the seller several times within the 3 weeks and never got a response. Finaly other people started leaving him negative feed back and so I went ahead and filled a claim. To make a long story short (to late?), I won the claim, got my money back and a month after that I recived the tank. To this day I still can not contact the seller, so until I hear from him I will enjoy the tank.

I don't mind paying for the item as I still want it very badly, however the seller has made no effort to contact me when I've sent repeated emails trying to contact them. Not one response since the beginning of the auction or otherwise...I forgot to mention that I was still mulling over the cancelling of the payment...It's not the money it's the principle involved as any word regarding the status of anything would've been very much appreciated.

I left my phone number for home, work, cell and various means of contacting me to let me know what's going on and nothing. I say it's his/her bad and I am very much bummed out as I am still without the stupid sightrailess BM body.

5 days is nothing to wait for a Paypal claim of the money, your friend is being silly not everyone is super quick with Paypal both paying and claiming the money. I just won an auction paid immediately with Paypal but due to the particular sellers policy they have said to allow 5-7 days before dispatch...where is the benifit of Paypal there? I could have sent a cheque, either way I wouldn't get any charges applied to me but the seller by taking Papal loses when they claim the money but treat it as a cheque, very strange but up to them I guess. Just tell your friend to chill out, if they are so used to using Ebay and Paypal this must have happened many times before. Also the person the money was sent to may only have a Personal account not a Premier one so it doesn't automatically take the money...even with a Premier account sometimes you have to claim the money if the person paying you, uses a credit card rather than a bank account or Paypal balance to pay. Also the person you have paid might be away on holiday or currently has no computer access.

Do a search for contact details for the person and YOU call them up. Make sure that when you dial their number you do it in such a way as to NOT withhold your number assuming this can be done on your telephone system.

Mark -I've tried. Nothing. It's like speaking to a brick wall. I have spoken to the Little ole' Lady who did the paypal, had her reinstate the payment and I will give the fellow seven days more, however should this git not respond...no money for him.

Are you sure that the lady sent the money to the right address?

Most of the time, when a payment goes unclaimed, its because you sent it to the wrong address.

Unless the seller was brand new to PayPal, it just goes into their account.

Check the address that the lady sent it to, I'd bet its got a typo in it.

Here's the End to the Issue:

Through some research on my part I was able to finally contact and speak to the seller and confirm that the deal will be completed as I had intended from the beginning. He had some "technical issues" and has since rectified his end, thus allowing us to both win.

Do some research on your part as a buyer, Ebay will give both parties phone numbers to the respective buyer/seller. Yellowpages.com is your friend and so is being patient. Enjoy AO.
