i sent a letter concerrning paintball to my town. i didnt really expect a letter back but surprisingly i did. i asked about building fields, holding tournaments. the head of my town, (director of park and rec.) said that in the letter a new 12 field complex was recently built in the town intended to hold tournaments and such regionally. i have been to this area, 12 soccer field, great conditioned, beautiful. im pretty sure this is enough space. you guys think so? perfect for paintball! he said i could call him back and we could propose it to the board. after a few tries i think this might get going, i mean, the place is INTENDED for use of regional tournaments of all sports. what do you guys think? im suprised i actually got a bit of attention. have any of you had these kind of situations? if so, how did it work out?
my proposal!

Yay lets tax the village even more. The indoor soccer grounds at the fair would make a good place.Comment

south park rocks: ahhhh come on man. ever heard of a fund raiser? and it would deffinitely cost a bit of monet to participate. im sure there are other options to raise money. we could also use the indoor soccer fields at the fair grounds but....there is much much more space at the Tree Farm. oh and also...how does it work out with paintballs washing out of grass? would we need some way to gather them at the end, or do they naturally wash out in a short period of time, meaning a few days?rt ule custom, boomstick, ult,apoc2k and x board revi, i want:j&j ceramic.Comment

one problem with this is that theres gonna be paint left EVERYWHERE after the tourney.
also, what were you going to do for netting?
plus youd have to advertize it, organize everything and get refs. what id do is maybe get a local field involved.Comment

"in your letter you mentioned having a tournament, and needing space. there is a new 12 field complex in the town, the tree farm rec. facility. the tree farm was built with the intent of attracting regional tournaments. i am on the board that manages the facility, and if you would like to talk to me about putting together a proposal to runa tournamenti will be happy to present it to the board."
word for word, exactly what he said...rt ule custom, boomstick, ult,apoc2k and x board revi, i want:j&j ceramic.Comment

Playboyz in Mass has a feild on soccer feilds. I've never been but I want to check it out.Originally posted by Will WoodHmm interesting. Playing on some soccer feilds.. good idea for tournaments. You could have an awsome playing feild, but just temporary for the tourneys. That might help get attention to the sport, playing in an area like that.
Hope it works out! Good luck.

dood, if just listening to a bunch of guys on a forum is already getting u down, then mebe you don't have the resolve to really see this thing through, in which case mebe yer better off not trying
in comparison, right now i am involved in trying to get paintball even legalized in our country (small south east asian country... my location says UK cos i'm just studying here). we've been meeting with goverment officials and giving demos and writing reports for almost a year now, and we pretty much have the backing of everybody (ministry of youth an sports, internal affairs, customs office, the army etc) except the Head Police Commisioner.. and its just his approval we need now (he's an old man an has a reputation of sitting on his *** twidling his thumbs and being afraid to make decisions...).
a lot of ppl said it couldn't be done. a lot of ppl said we were crazy and gonna get ourselves arrested just for mentioning it to them. a lot of ppl just said we should just stick to playing underground (we oare of course VERY strict with safety rules)... but we (about 5 of us including myself) went ahead with it anyway and now it looks like things may finally pay off. hopefully sometime this summer, we will be able to go public and have a few exhibition games in public stadiums around the country.
btw, with regards to the netting asked earlier... when i played in malaysia, we played on a public soccer field, and what they did was they setup those construction platforms along the boundary of the field and attached the net to those.

I think Shartley is trying just stating the 'obvious' points in regards to a tournament. Given you have brought it up for further discussion is good. He's not trying to knock your idea down and such, this is just my impression, but if you were to bring this to fruition he brings up points to consider when building a proposal. I'm sure if a local field or 2 are 'join forces' and hold a 'regional' tournament they should consider some of the points Shartley considered.
Shart - If I'm putting words in your mouth, that wasnt my intention, it was my interpretation of your statements.
Yes, it is great that the youu received a reply regarding possible sites to hold the tournament, it will bring additional revenue for the local businesses, but keep in mind most paintballers tend to be low in $, so the town would definately have to consider the risk/reward relationship.

Well, Wide World of Disney hold the Orlando Open, World Cup, and some college XBall on thier football/soccer fields. Same areas that the Tasmpa Bay Buccaneers practice for the NFL, so the place you describe sounds perfect. Keep in mind you have to get field netting which involves placing huge posts deep in the ground to string up the netting.[Something Cool is Here]Comment

What Sam is saying, is get your TOTAL proposal together for when you meet with this director of the park facility. If you can tell him; "This is what is needed for a Paintball tournament. I am in cooperation with 'Bobs Paintball emporium' who has agreed to supply any needed safety equipment, and all material and equipment for the actual playing fields. I have asked 'Bobs lumber emporium' for materials and labor to build safe fields. I have questioned people at 'Bobs High School emporium' to volunteer as safety officials, clean-up crews, and parking attendants. I can provide letters and material that further explains the set-up procedures for a paintball tournament, including insurance companies that cover the sport of Paintball."
You have done the first hurdle, which is inquire about possible use of the park. Now you have to sell it to someone that doesn't want it to happen! It's do-able, as tourney's are played around the world. But it won't happen at all, if you are afraid of rejection.
Go for it. It will be a hell of a big job, but if you pull it off.....way cool!
