New to the ranks + Mag questions

Hi, I just yesterday bought an Automag classic on a whim. Normaly I research alot but I was mesmerized by it and had to get it, besides, Mags have quite a reputation.

It was owned by a shop owner/collector who decided to sell the collection, it's in excellent shape, virtually no wear marks, it looks new. I think it is quite old, serial #233.

It has a large expansion cahmber for Co2 (I know HPA would be better) and a barrel I cannot identify, thick aluminum and what looks like a thin steel inner surface, anyone know what it is? It looks like the barrel on the funny
Mag with the coke bottle and wood parts I have seen posted here.

It cost me $200, is that decent? Consider that I am happy it is old, I like classics and I understand this is more or less the best of its time, now I'll use my pro-lite as backup

    Thanks

KayelAGD, the number is CF00233, its the only number I could find on it anyway. Does it have some significance other than being a low serial?

        The pic

Sorry for the quality, crapy cam It works better in daylight so I will see if I can get better pics.

That rail looks like it is still a level 5. The VA was scabbed on to use the exspansion chamber. Look the list of levels to see if your valve was updated or not.

For what it's worth, the expansion chamber looks like one of the old Smart Parts ones. They're pretty nice actually, and are quite complicated inside compared to other chanbers. They were about $100 back in the day.

                * I tried taking better pictures but no joy, its junk, it doubles as a webcam *

Thanks for the help TAW and Jaan. I gased it up today and it worked perfectly, I use Co2 and did not get any of the white vapor when shooting whereas when I shot the 98c I had alot of it so I guess the expansion chamber is doing its job. I am happy.

VinRR, I guess I might have been able to find a better deal, but its a good gun in good shape hey? I am pleased with my purchase. What should it have been?
                Anyway, thanks eveyone.

WOW, that looks like a level 5 automag. Judging by that low serial #, the old frame, the old accessories(HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LEVEL 5) like the ex-chamber, even the old black hose, it just looks level 5(THE RAIL, FRAME, VALVE) and looks *MINT*. Don't ever get rid of it because it could be rare. If you ever do get rid of it, CONTACT ME FIRST. Anyways, if it is lvl5, you got a good deal and the most important thing is your happy with it.

If you use CO2, besides the expansion chamber put an anti-syphon tub in the tank (if mounted on gun). A remote works well too ... 'Mags don't like getting liquid CO2 in them, the seals freeze up.

You certainly have a rare and old mag. Here's a quote from Tom Kayes post about the history of the 'mag.

"The smaller air chamber was the original configuration along with the power tube tip with no slots. You have them reversed. The bigger air chamber was hogged out as one of the level updates in order to reduce the pressure.

Thats some pretty original stuff considering we started the serial numbers at 100.

                      AGD"

Enjoy your mag. IF and when you sell it, don't sell cheap. Post it here on these forums and let the bidding war begin.

I wouldnt even play with that one. Its a collectors item. Look at getting a "play with " mag & put that one in a safe place. Great find.

Is the rail drilled out for the back bottle adaptor?
