umm...? rusting is oxidation of iron/ferrous metal to create iron oxide. copper just oxidizes turning into CuO and as you said, it turns green.

Copper, in a sense, does rust. But it isn't the same as other things rusting. It turns green and is really a whole different process.

every teacher is anal about something. but no one ever refers to the oxidation of other pure metals/transition metals as "rust", they just refer to it as oxidation. in the link you sent me, the first definition was "ferric oxides". on half the dictionaries you will check, rust will only be defined as ferric oxides or mention iron/steel.
