a local field started checking hydro dates before filling any kind of tanks.

on my tank there are numbers saying 05-04. whats that mean? i got my tank new less than a year ago. it has a 5 year hydro. when should i expect the hydro to expire?

That is the date that the tank was originally hydroed.
