Thordic, no SC regiments ever marched under that Flag nor did it originate here in SC. Nor was it ever even used here until the Centenial of the Civil War in 1960. It was chosen that year as it had by then (100 years later) become the most widely recongnized flag of the Confederacy by politicians who wanted to send a hidden subtle message to Blacks during the time of desegregation. Not to honor the fallen members of the confederacy as was the stated purpose and allit shoudl ahve been. So that was one clear example of people misusing the flag for something it should not have been. That particular Flag itself I have no real problem with. Just the people who now use it as a symbol of their misguided actions.

For those of you who want to dislink Slavery from the Civil War as one of the central issues that caused it, this is a good article about it:http://www.cyberessays.com/History/86.htm
If you dig deep enough into this issue you will see it initally wasn't as much about abolition of slavery in the South... early on (as has been previously pointed out)but the failure of the South to get the ability to expand slavery into the new territories which eventually led them to not even being able to ratify anything to assure it even in the South. And then it "Went South" (pun intended ) from there! So Slavery was a real issue early on. But not nessicarily the abolition of it in the South. But they felt threatened by the actions of the Northern States by its exclusion in the new territories. So to me it was still an "issue" that caused the War wasn't it? Anyway tha is one debate that goes on and on. You can draw your own conclusions.

Also I will say this: I think NJ is one of the prettiest States I have ever been in. I do not think the myth thats some have of it is at all justified. Just ignorance I guess.

Bluntman, Good question! We did drift off didn't we?
