Making the jump from back to mid.

it looks like this season I will be making the jump up from back to mid, or at least a highly mobile 3rd back. I tend to play the right side and have no quams about jumping up, when given the opportunity.. Usually if I feel like I should push up, even if it's to the 50, I do - which, when I do, it usually leads to good results.. What should I try and work on this off-season to make me a better "mid" player..

    Looking for thoughts, comments, experiences.

Make sure if you do this that it is with good communication with the other backplayers, to let them know to cover what you leave open, and begin being the communication of the team. I had a team once that did this, and when things were held together by our one "stationary" back man it worked reasonably well, however, if we lost him, or he got distracted, things went downhill quickly. A team that realizes you have lost back support, firepower and communication, can eat you up. Factually because more and more teams "divide" the field we often will concentrate on one tape backplayer, and once gone, force up that tape...

I guess, what I am trying to say, don't forget your role as a backplayer when you move up, and make sure its covered.

One thing we had been doing, with limited success -- 2 fronts 3 backs, but then relying on me being more mobile in the fact that I am free to work up my tape.. I suppose I've already been playing more of a "mid" role the whole time, but I'd like to be more consistent with it.

Think about the very high likelyhood of playing front and refilling front positions that have been eliminated. Continue the quarterbacking and shoot like you were a back backguy, but be more than ready to use moibility as a tool. Also try to get comfy knowing you dont see field as much as the back guy.

Continue to work on your snapshooting skills, but most importantly, know when you should get in a gunfight, if at all. Also improve your running and shooting skils.

When i play back i generaly finish mid, when i play mid, i generaly finsh with runthtroughs. GL

The running and gunning is definitely one thing I need to work on, especially with my 'weak' hand. When things go properly, even when we lose, I usually end up at about the 40/50. On a REAL good day, there have been times where I end up clearing the field because I moved up at the right time. I used to think about it too much and hesistate but usually now, if I get the urge that "i should go. NOW" I take off running -- the hunches are usually right.

The biggest thing I think you need to practice on getting to your bunker when the game starts. I know that might sound stupid, but mid guys have to go a bit farther than backs.

I love to push on the 50. You really only need about 2-3 pods, back comm is key, and run your *** off. I am not sure about the 3 back stragety, two seems to work best. Rest assured if your backs and mids are gone you will take a beating.

Mid comm is key to those on back who cant see past center field 50.

Your not shooting strings. 3 shots max on the 50.

Usually if I feel like I should push up, even if it's to the 50
This is a great skill. When you feel a push don't wait, push hard and fast.

Work on your flexibility, as in stretches and ability to get into awkward positions. Playing back mostly involves just standing up and controlling a part of the field. Playing mid will require more movement in tight postions. Don't forget that mid often becomes front quickly. Work on running speed, staying low, sliding effectively, even shooting during and right after the slide as well as on the run.

                  Good luck with the change.

The basic rules are the same from playing back and playing front:

                      A) Don't get shot
                      B) Shoot other people (preferably on the other team, not yours)
                      C) If you get a chance, get the flag
                      D) Hang the flag

Our game is not that complex

you should work on your katana skills

you'd be surprised how fast a katana can motivate someone to gtfo of your way.
