The only reason I got myslef a MySpace was to communicate with my cousins and a few friends that I haven been in touch with since I moved. I dont post stupid comments on other people's pages ansd stupid stuff like that. Its just easier to keep in touch with them than calling them and stuff. It can be stupid though, it all depends on who's using it. But that applies to everything, who's doing it...rt ule custom, boomstick, ult,apoc2k and x board revi, i want:j&j ceramic.

I guess I've seen the other side of it now. All I've been exposed to is local highschoolers posting short comments like, "yo I'm so drunk right now dude". The myspace I've seen is a cesspool of stupidity. Now if you're telling me that intelligent convos go on there, cool. That's more what a forum is, where people can have conversations. I have never seen a real, human conversation on myspace, only those illiterate at best comments.
I also see a lot of people using it for dating. That's just sad. If you're lazy enough / stupid enough to look on the internet for your next friday night, you seriously need to rethink your life. The problem is that the kids I see using it don't know how to go out into the real world and meet people any more. They rely totally on it. I go to an all guy's school and I still was able to meet someone and I've been going out with her for 2.5+ years now. However, the myspace that I have experienced is churning out people who can't even comprehend the idea of carrying on a conversation with someone in person and building a relationship with them.
If you guys are telling me there's another end of the spectrum, cool. It does prove one thing, there are people who can't handle it. They let it "dumb" them down and ruin their social skills. But I guess they didn't have the maturity to be productive citizens anyways. It just goes to show that you can't fix stupid lol. No matter how many education programs you throw at a kid, if he doesn't have the mental capacity, he's not going to advance. People have limits. Unfortunately some of them slip through the cracks and get into positions of power despite their innadequate IQ. It drives me crazy sometimes that it goes on. Recently however, I discovered a word used by German philosophers that identifies this bewilderment. Weltschmirtzen is the angst caused by the realization of the difference between how the world should be and how it is. We should be limiting the control of people who are incompetent, but they still come into power. Bah, I'm moving to Switzerland...

Again, I've never seen that side of it. As you can see, the people I see using it are most likely the other side of the unit normal curve. You know, the people that get on everyone else's nerves and are only alive because it's illegal to kill them.

I think you'll find a big difference between how teenagers use MySpace... and college students/people in 20s-30s. There are people I hang out with now that I would not have... people I don't get a chance to talk to much, but we stay in touch in this way... I wish I knew about it sooner, I thought it was silly until I really understood what it was good for. It's great for organizing social events... and putting stuff on a calendar... stuff like that... and many other things.Originally posted by warbeak2099Again, I've never seen that side of it. It really depends on how it is used.

Let's say you wanted to organize an event... and you had 15 friends you wanted to invite. How would you do this? Make phone call after phone call? Word of mouth?
With MySpace... you can schedule an event that everyone in your list can see. It keeps track of who is coming, who is not, you can post a map... additional information... see what other people think about it... etc. People can talk amongst each other. It's a very good coordination tool.

*Ironic* ??Originally posted by FromTheBackI believe you are taking myspace a little bit too seriously there warbeak..it's a way to keep in touch with friends and have fun on the internet. Merely an advancement in communicating and making bonds stronger that distance can create. It's more personal than email and instant messangers to me and if I can't get up with someone I contact them on myspace and it usually works a lot better then leaving a voicemail or trying to find them on AIM. Yes I have stayed up late at night on myspace checking to see how my friends are as many of my other college buddies have done also. I guess that could be considered a degradation of our sleep and result in a lesser amount of studying but at that point you would find something else to do on the computer to stay up. I think it's more of a useful tool than something that is a menace to society personally, hey because of it I have renewed a lot of links to friends that I have lost in the past.. And as far as the intellectual level on myspace, you can find a great deal of hard working college students (such as myself and many of my friends), graduates, and adults so maybe you just aren't meeting the right crowd. Honestly the idea of comments would closely originated from a message board which, we seem to be taking part in right now and having a fairly "bright bunned" conversation. Short comments from internet speak originated around e-mail and this is just a further progression, you can't blame a great system such as this.God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.
