Also anyone that has taken literature or a more advanced english class will tell you that old english and middle english may as well be a foreign language. If you heard or read it you wouldnt understand a word of it.

Exactly, and you couldn't even read it. Also, technically we were so against them that i think illinois' official language is american. Or some other place's official language.

It is semantics but the section I originally wrote would have been middle english...IE Shakespearean (this is debateable as to be "modern" since the updated versions of the sonnets and plays etc confuse the issue, Chaucer is creditted with being the forerunner of Middle English but then this in reality is simply due to the accessability of the printed word after the Caxton presses started to get used, but then technically he was behind the times as Germany had already beaten him to it but of course that was a different language) in the scholistic world it isn't Olde but as you say Middle. In general perception it is Olde English though, mainly due to the litrature that was actually written down or more commonly printed. As the texts that were written from the earlier period (olde) were a corruption of several languages and made for the most part by religious people for and by high status patrons.

Much in the way that in America a "themed" bar of an Olde English bar is Elizabethan in decor etc...is it right...technically no, but it is in the public perception.
