AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
With my last project, I was a bit more serious about keeping track of the time I spent, and I wound up around 1200 hours in a year and eight month time span. I could add another hundred for time spent staring at the thing and wondering what to do next, and maybe subtract another 50 for the two barrels I carved to scrap. The estimate is pretty close in that case.
With the E-mag, things are a bit different. I started on this thing when I got to Germany at the end of 2001. I tinkered with the rail and the sight rail for a while, then actually started messing with a few other mag parts too. Things got totally chaotic when I started on the cocker too. I soon made the decision to focus solely on the cocker instead of three projects at once. When the cocker was finished I went back to the E-mag, leaving the other mag on the side for the last project.
So the E-mag has been spread out over a larger time period, and I honestly have no real grasp on how much time I've actually spent on it. There are days when I don't work on it at all, then there are weekends and holidays where I don't see the light of day.
A safe guess for this one in it's completed form will be somewhere around 1000 hours. It might even be more, but I'm not really sure anymore. It doesn't really matter to me either.
As far as your price estimate goes, it sounds reasonable, but I'm not reasonable when it comes to asking for money. A largely unaccounted for and costly factor is the loss of my sanity in the process, so in the end I'm crazy enough to ask for a million dollars for this thing.....and that's what I'm going to do. Nobody buys my stuff any way, telling me I'm insane to ask for so much for a gun that is meant for show.
The bottom line is that the price does not matter to me, nor does selling it. I'm honestly insulted though when a person from a reputable company offers me a gun in trade or a mere 1000$ for such a piece. I can only say that they have no clue about what they are looking at.
I love making these things, and the comments I get from you guys when I show them are priceless. That's why when the new website is out, it's going to focus on fun and entertainment instead of making money. For all that it takes out of my pocket, and it's actually quite a bit, it's worth it.
I'm not sure what system they use over here, I'm still using my '99 Imac so you're asking the wrong person. Sorry.
