    Quick Sear Question.

What material is the classic sear made of. I need to know, for sure. Thanks.

I remember TK saying they are made of a high carbon steel and then either cadmium plated or doped (cant remember) for alot more hardness and wear prevention. This why bolt's wear and chip more often than the sears in spite of the bolts being stainless steel. I can only assume that the sear being made of this Alloy is the reason there aren't any sucessful Aluminum lightweight bolts.

So can the sears be welded?
