This is what I was saying Xmagterror shoud work on. Body kits that could be put on ULE bodies. They would sell like hotcakes, no doubt.

Agreed.Originally posted by WarwitchThis is what I was saying Xmagterror shoud work on. Body kits that could be put on ULE bodies. They would sell like hotcakes, no doubt.
Didn't we already have a thread on how body sleeves/skins would be cool upgrades?
I'm sure they'd be easier to make than entire bodies. It would also make changing your Mag's look a lot cheaper than buying an entirely new body.Comment

Yeah, I was trying to generate a little interest (which there obviously is). Planned on doing a couple on my friends mill but he is extremely unreliable. Its not rocket science and Im still no one has ever put any effort into making them avail on the forum. It would be so much nicer to just swap body kits for a different effect. Rather than having to deal with the much more complicated milling on the internals and rail areas of bodies.
Couldnt someone just do a 3D scan of a ULE? Then use CAD to design the sleeves?Comment

Hmm, I might do that, wouldn't be very hard at all to make a cad file of its external shape.
Though I'm not thrilled about sleeves. A bit too ion-ish. I think part of what makes aftermarket bodies so awesome is their price and the fact that it's quite rare to see aftermarket bodies as a result.Comment

You need to go check out the Z-grip mag sitting in the BST section. I think the rail he has for that gun may have come from this one initially. If not I want to see what it was built for.....
something like this, minus the terrible photoshop abilities....

But price is a major factor that prevents those bodies being accessable by the masses. And quite honestly, the fact that you can change up Ions just by swapping sleeves is pretty darn sweet IMO. Not that Im condoning the use of Ions by any means.
Its just a sweet concept and much more easily accomplished.
Of course anyone attempting this might just have to deal with SmartParts somewhere down the line (or at least their attorney's.)

Tippmanns have body sleeves too. The mil-sim crowd loves them.
Mags and even my wife's old VM68 had sight rails that slid over them and locked on with a nut. Why not just make the sleeves longer and accomodate for feed-necks and ball detents?
Or follow Spec-Ops example and use those screw holes that RT Pro's already have in the rails?Comment

Thats exactly my point. You could go from milsim to a designer body with a couple of set screws.Comment

Alright guys, I'll give it a go, just need to find a version of Inventor to "borrow" off the internet for my home computer. Darn schoolwork won't give me enough time to do it at college. One last question, should it be a 2-sleeve system like the dragonmag or a one-sleeve with a cutout for the feedneck like the Ion?Comment

Now all you need is hat or jersey with a dragon tail.
If tippmann made something like this with their propane gun, think of the dual fun you could have!

Couple of quick points that I can shed light on:
1) The body shell is complete as shown in the picture. When I asked tyson to carve it for me I didn't have a rail done.
2) In order to get the mouth of the dragon to go over the barrel area we had to go with two of the long style rails. I'm not sure how it would work the a ULE body.
3) The sleeves are held in place with setscrews. They didn't make much of a mark on the stainles steel body, but keep in mind they may dig into an alumnium body and will, at the very least, give surface scratches. I suppose you could use nylon screws or something instead though.Comment

Those were the tall, old style rails, not the short, stuby TASO rail, right? I had one for the sharpshooter sight (for a day or two).Originally posted by ShooterJM2) In order to get the mouth of the dragon to go over the barrel area we had to go with two of the long style rails.
