What are the stars on classic vavles?

I've seen alot of references to the stars on classic valves - like "has all 4 stars" or "has one star left". I know this has to have an extremely simple answer, but I'm very new to mags and am not familiar with all the mag-specific lingo just yet.

but anyways, the stars were for free valve rebuilds, but werent really needed so i think they stopped doing that, giving each valve ONE free rebuild regardles of stars

correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure that it means you csan send it back to agd if there is a problem and they'll fix it for free, although im not 100% sure
