These sound kinda cool, and I've heard good things about them but I'm not sure if they're worth 300 bucks. I don't really play rec, so range isn't that big of a deal, but if they really make a big difference I might consider one.

i own a z-body it is a dream come true the range is real good it also shoots at a flater trajectory meaning that there is less arc that can make a big diffrence if there is a low overhang or some place that you dont have room to ark upwards to get the ball to its target it is also alot cheaper if you own a cocker too cause they use the same barrel the only thing that you need to do is make shure that you have a small bore paint and a large bore barrel (g3pb.com has one in thier mag section that is the one i have it works great i would recomend it to anyoneI am the infantry

I've owned one over a year ago and like stated it really only works well with a small bore paint and a large bore barrel... my other gripe with this waste of money product is that it only really worked one out of 4 shots or so.... Sure I was impressed with how much that 1 in 4 would go but that wasn't enough for me to keep the product...Taking a long needed leave of the sport to finish school and tour the country

Law, What bore size were you using?
I used one with a .700 CP barrel for a while (traded off for a warp feed and mini mag body), and it worked very consistantly.
I'd say that with a bore size of .697 or larger, you should be able to backspin ANY paintball 100% of the time.
the "large-bore" barrels available that aren't specifically made for the Z-body (such as the Lapco Z-barrel) won't work. They range from .691 to .693.
that just won't cut it. You NEED @ least .696, and like i said .697 or larger is optimum. i wouldn't go over .700 tho.

My barrel was .695 Most of the time the paint I was using was diablo hellfire and marbs... the hellfire is really small

I have a Z-body and matched it with a StoneCold II Big Bore. I found I achieved backspin, about, 90% of the time (using Proball Plat.) The problem I found was with that little paintball rattling down that huge bore you had to crank the reg. way up to reach a functioning velosity. This turned the marker into a monster air-hog. I ended up backing the spin nub way out, dropped a tight bore barrel on the marker and just enjoyed the lighter weight aluminium body.
The spin was nice, but was not worth the loss in air efficiency (I play renegade rec-ball & that 88ci tank has to last all day).

Law,
.695 was probably not big enough. .696 is BARE MINIMUM for a consistant backspin.
the paint you are using should be able to fall/slide right THROUGH the barrel without getting hung up. Another issue could be the oil that's used on some of the diablo paints. You're supposed to try to get rid of that by rolling the paint around in a pillow case or something.
Advantage paint worked extremely well when it wasn't breaking in my gun (brittle paint).
and yeah, I did notice that I was filling my 68/3k a bit more often, but it was well worth it, since air is free at my field, and I play woods for the most part.

If you're not interested in the backspin effect, the Z Body has a pretty hefty price tag for not really providing performance benefits. The only real up-side at that point is that you can use 'cocker barrels or with a little milling reverse the powerfeed for a right-side warp feed setup.
If you do want the backspin effect, keep in mind that it will take a fair amount of tweaking in selection of barrel and paint combination to get consistency out of it (if you play at primarily FPO fields this can be a problem). In my experience the Tippmann Flatline is much more forgiving of paint quality and reliable in this respect and a Flatline and Custom 98 can also be had for less than the cost of the Z-Body you have another paintgun with a more "plug and play" backspin system.
All that said, if you're willing to put the time into tweaking, and put up with the fact that you won't allways get good backspin (when you don't get good backspin, you still get good Automag performance) the ZBody is pretty cool, in that it offers you a backspin option.
