I think you all would like the first field I played on. Its woodsball, and has a great family feel to it. There is minimal cheating, really cheap prices($40 a case, $1 fills, $20 admission). They have mech spyder rentals, chrono every second game, and although the refs are spread out(cause its woodsball, over about 2 acres of land), they do a decent job of keeping the cursing level down. That's mostly all they have to do, that and helping players walk off the field, because almost everyone calls themselves out.
I should know, I reffed there for a couple months.

The only thing I didn't like were the guys with shockers who carried half a case on their backs, but I can't really complain since I eventually got an emag and carried 1/4 a case on my back, and was able to shoot just as fast. On a couple of the games, the terrain was laid out so one guy shooting 10 bps could keep 8 guys down behind the rocks, and the 8 guys couldn't shoot back because he was uphill. Ah well... I don't go there anymore, I like speedball, and I'm willing to ignore the AGGots to play it.

I still get that "kid on Christmas morning" feeling. Only when I see another mag user on the field or in the store. Like long lost family reunited.

We need to have another AO WI. I'm getting another hyperframed mag also. By far my favorite gun I have ever used.


Oh sorry for the off topic. And even though I didn't play let alone live in the "Glory Days" the pros seem to out do the cons of paintball now adays. Plus in my area I don't see much of the snotty kid attitude. Sure it's there, but no one "throws temper tantrums"...the people at the place I play would look at the kid like he is a retard and probably ask him to leave.

Yea i wasn't around for the "good ole days" but like most people i do miss the first few times i played. I had to convince my parents to let me spend my money on a 32* rebel, lol. Then just going out into the woods with a few friends and playing for a few hours. I really hate how now everyone just focus's on how fast people shoot. I would have loved to been around when it was only pumps.

That's one of the things about the "old days" - we didn't have that whole attitude that we were supposed to be something AGG. Some of us still prefer an atmosphere that's a whole lot less aggressive. We don't shoot so much, and we don't care to be shot so much. Just one will do it.

There are still plenty of stockclass and pump-only games going on. They're springing up all over as more people realise that ROF is all hype and the Golden Rule of "do unto others" still pertains.

Yeah Pyrate ... we're trying to settle on dates for the Fox 4 summer and fall pump only games so head on over to their forums and cast your vote ...

Many of youse in New England will know Fox 4 as the host field from last years, and this years, upcoming Automag Owners day so if you want to play some pump only make sure you keep an eye open for the date of the next game.

Who says the good ol' days are gone? Oh yeah, Asia just reformed too and are going on tour, woo hoo! It's 1985 all over again ...

I agree with the good old days feel and dont agree at the same time.
I miss the days when you had smaller games with 5-10 players per team. I hate going into a speedball field with 40 players on each team, and the field is only meant to hold 5 players on each team. Not fun at all. i also miss the game being like chess where you used your brains to help you win the game. I enjoyed setting people up bumping to the next bunker hiding and letting the person not know where, and you lighting them up. i feel that you cant do that as much anymore. i normaly play the front position, and all my friends were giving me grief last time we played because i hung out in back alot. i did hang out in back untill the 40 on 40 teams narrowed down to be like 7 on 7 and then i moved up like i normally play. the problem with this is that i probably wasted half a case all day doing this. and i hate going into the field with so much paint being flung that you barely can look out your bunker. back in the day if you got shot, you knew who was shooting you. now if you get shot your like were did that come from?
on the other hand i do love the speed ball fields, hyperfields, i dont really play woods ball anymore. i love the fast upgradeable guns. anti chop eyes, level 10s. better loaders more accurate paint, and more competion in the business aspect(ie. cheaper prices).
i dont however like ramping. i think one of the worst things technology has brought to paintball.

i do see a lot more cheating now. that is because it is harder to tell if you hit someone when there are 40 on 40 teams and you can only look out your bunker for a split second. We watched a match and counted this kid wiping 6 times in one game. that is crazy imagine how much more the oposing player spent to hit him 6 times.

i have also seen kids that are regulars get more out of the refs. and this is at a good field. think about it from a business aspect. if you see someone there everyweekend you are going to better to them even if they are a little piss ant. they are paying your salary. and when a good honest player comes to the field once in a while they are going to be overlooked sometimes because they aren't regulars that is just good business, and it is unfortunate.

i try to stick to private games because when you do a private game it brings back the feel of the good old days and you dont have tons of people on each team.

i think that if the good players come out and stay true to there game and teach the younger kids the good honest way of playing paintball then they will learn

Here's the joke, not much has changed. Tourney guys wore tiger stripe then, Jerseys now. The "Good guys" had high end Mags and Cockers, now it's high end... whatevers. It was all about getting more point shot faster, the 9 barrier, the 13 promise, the 20 ramping. Don't kid yourselves, there was fighting, wiping, cheating, and all that unsavory stuff back "in the day" too. We all just prefer to think we were nobler, wiser, and "we were never like that."

There's a lot different, but it hasn't changed much. There's the ultimate irony. For all the advances, not much has changed.

There's some old stuff I don't miss. "Safety" gear, chronies that would only work in the right lighting conditions, and glitter paint. But for all it's flaws, we stick with it because it' snot just about the hardware, or the jerks, or the snot-nosed punks (tm), or the fields that suck. It's about the people you meet, the places you go, and the expirences.

At least that's the best I've come up with.

I have to really agree with you about the experiance in general. There is no way I would have played as long as I have w/o the people I have met and become friends with along the way. The games are fun, but what is even better is the time spent hanging out and talking BS. Good stuff!

Perhaps its not the "good old days" but us that change, at least in our minds

When we first come into the sport we got destroyed more often than not. No big deal we were new and these players were better than us. We got a lucky shot in once in awhile.

Then we were moderately good. We started giving more eliminations than taking. And we even sometimes took out the "elite" players.

Then we were the "elite" players - we could hold our own against anyone.

Now we are so good that any team that beats us must be cheating, anyone who is happy about it must be trash talking. None of them could have earned the right to play at our level, mommy and daddy must have bought there way here...
