    Camelbak and paintball

Just got a Camelbak for an upcoming scenario. One of the major problems running around all day is dehydration so I plan to fight back.

Anyone used one and have any comments or suggestions?

I have a problem with clearance for the remote line hitting the bottom of the pak.

Fill the pack the night before and freeze it flat. You're water will stay cold longer and ice on your back will help keep you cooler through the day.

I play with one & find that it makes a big difference.

The freezing idea is a good one but be carefull not to fill it completely & don't suck water through the tube before putting it in the freezer, you don't want the ice to crack something.

I like to fill it halfway and blow into it and fill with air before freezing. That way you clear the air out of the line and you leave room to fill with water. That way you don't have to wait for it to unfreeze before you can drink.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet that I figure I should add:

If your carrier does not have a cross-chest strap, add one.

With a lot of upper body movement like in paintball, the straps will pull backwards and restrict motion. A strap that goes across the chest helps out a great deal. Even if all you can do is to tie a shoelace between the straps, do that.

Be creative when it comes to getting the most out of the carrier. If you're going to be wearing the thing in the first place, you might as well have it fill as many functions as possible. A remote bottle holder is a great idea and you can do a lot more with them too. Good luck.

After: "Crap! It's that guy with the pump!"

Dont fill it all the way though. (yes, obvious, but you never know)

They sell chest strap kit if your model did not come with one... and is worth the buy.

A pod upside down in your pack works surprisingly well.

I am unsure of the name of the one I got. Its a hunting rig, camo colored, and has the chest strap. Its got rings on it up near the top, so one has become my radio clip and the other I am going to clip a card holder to. I took the extra length of the shoulder straps and ran them through the loops for suspenders on the pack and plan on stitching the shoulder straps to my suspenders across the shoulder to keep everything together.

This pack is a 6+ with the horizonal pods. Everything clears fine except for the on/off part of the remote line. It and the camelbak hit each other. I suspect that when I fill with water it will be a pain in the butt.

I already have the cover for the mouthpiece. I am looking to get the 90* end so it will go under my mask better, but am currently rigging up a pocket for the mouthpiece to stay in during the game. Getting mouthful of ? when you'd really like a drink is a nasty suprise I would rather avoid.

I have the old version of the HAWG that I use for backpacking. I havent used it for paintball though. My adice to you is to clean it after you use it because if you dont, mold will grow in the resovoir.

I used mine extensively in the desert when i was deployed...just before you go out fill it up with ice and add water the ice will keep the water and your back nice and cool. I don't know what I would have done without mine in the desert.
