What if you chopped a mace filled paintball in your gun?

It is actually very difficult to do that. The plastic shells are very sturdy. I have only known of a few times this has happened and it was either due to a previously cracked ball or operator error and it was in training. But to directly answer your question; While shooting if a powder filled ball were to break it would eject powder out of the breach (depending on how open the breach was when the break occurs)and the barrel. In riot situations this is not that big of a deal because the operator will most likely have a gas mask on. Other situations it could blow back onto the operator and impair them a bit.

          pro-ball

Pro-ball used to put out rose scented paintballs, and I think some other scents as well as paintballs that had glitter mixed with the paint fill.

My personal favorite was the talcum fill that had talcum powder that stuck and dried on you when it hit. Think getting hit by a ball of mud at 200mph. they had a heavier mass than standard paintballs as well

Wow did those things hurt when they hit you!!
