Aftermaket Angel LPR Company trying to give me the shaft?

    Hey everyone,
I just wanted some ideas about how to proceed with this. I ordered and received an std industries LPR for my 05 speed. A little backround I've been playing paintball for about 8 years and worked as a gun tech for the first 3 years before joining the Marine Corp. as a C130 Hydraulic/Structure mechanic. I understand pneumatics and hydraulics more than a lay person is my point here. Now I installed this new out of the box lpr in my speed and aired it up ready to test it out. My problem was immediate, It was leaking excessively out of the front where the adjustment screw is. I took it apart as their online trouble shooting guide suggested and looked for wear on my new out of the box piston o-ring. I would have been better off if there was a damaged o-ring but that is no the case. I suspect a tolerance issue and think a slightly larger o-ring might work but I figured I payed sixty dollars for this thing I'll e-mail this company which is according to their website somehow affiliated with an AKA tech who designed the SCM lpr. Which on a side note is why I decided to go this route (I don't like playing with the shims, testing it, playing with the shims etc. etc.) I've emailed them 5 times since two weeks ago when this started. I always get a reply from their mail server stating my question is important blah blah blah so I know their spam filter isn't junking my questions. I still haven't heard from them to date and suspect shennanigans. What does everyone else say?

Dan is a reputable seller.. He was also the head master tech for AKA. There's nothing to worry about him. If your email isn't getting to him, try hitting him up in the AKA forum - he's "Auctionjunkie," one of the MODs.

as RK said, STD is a reputable company, and makes the best regs on the market.

when i got mine for my freestyle, it also leaked out the front. if the o-ring looks fine, just turn the pressure up until the leaking stops. remember, the cap covering the spring screws in, so the body of reg has to be threaded. what i think happens is they dont want the pressure to be too high out of box, as that could potentially cause damage to a solenoid. its always better to be safe and have a pressure thats too low out of box. so i think they barely start threading it in, and the piston o-ring is just touching the start of the thread, creating a leak.

there is a second o-ring on the cap that screws into the reg. for most pressures required this o-ring is not visible, but when i opened the package it looked like the cap was screwed in just enough to cause the o-ring to touch the main body of the reg.

I did adjust the pressure both up and down when I discovered the leak. Raising the pressure with the adjustment screw increases the severity of the leak. It seems like the pressure relief in the piston but I don't see an adjustment if it even has a pressure relief. (I hope it does for my solenoids sake) Anyway thanks for the comments I was hoping when I started this thread someone would say they knew someone with std and had a favorable opinion as well.

I also know dan, albiet not as closely as rob, but he is always willing to help out, im willing to bet that they are just currently rather busy. As rob suggested, hop on pbn and shoot him a pm, tell him how long you have been waiting etc, and im sure he will be able to give you a hand. Std is an awesome company, and customer service is very important to them.

Both dan and Aaron are stand up guys, as is the company they started, im sorry that the product you purchased isnt working as expected, but it happens to the best of us.

I hear you guys, I've always been a fan of AKA since I got the LP craze on my first cocker way back when. I am a little frustrated just because I pulled an all nighter putting this thing in and then evaluating why it was leaking because I wanted to play the following day. That was 3 weeks ago. I realize this is probably a small operation with one person monitoring all the emails in addition to other responsibilities (and probably a whole seperate day job) so I'll keep my patience. If you guys say dans a good guy I'll take your word for it. As it stands right now I sent auctionjunkie at pbn a pm so If his message box isn't full I might at least get a response to start the ball rolling in a day or two.

Dan is a reputable guy and stands behind his work. I had the exact same thing happen to my 2 litre a couple years back and he took care of it quick. Once you get a hold of him it will all be settled.

I have had nothing but good service from Dan. I bought a lpr off pbn for my freestyle before I realized that they was a different version for FS7's. I sent a pm to him on pbn, got a reply the next day and he sent me a new spring at no cost to me (not even shipping), no questions asked.

Actually, I had a similiar problem... actually got a reply from an e-mail I sent him... let me dig it up...

a new -015 buna, it continued to leak. After playing with it for a
bit, I decided to try a -014 and it worked like a charm. Was my LPR a
slight fluke or are the directions that come with the Gen3 have a
                    typo? Thanks!

the pressure is much higher. Let me know if you have any
                    problems,

Personally, I think he's full of it. There's simply no way the 015 would seal on the piston I have. It wasn't that air was kinda sneaking by... it was just too big for the piston and was getting pinched against the inside wall of the LPR. Putting a 014 on sealed it right up. On the other hand, I also had cronic problems with the LPR eventually pinching that o-ring too and had to send the entire LPR in to have it serviced. When I got it back, no note telling me what happened, no apology, nothing; Just a padded envelope with a ziplock bag inside with my LPR. I also replied to Dan's e-mail above with basically "was there an error in the manual, or do I have an oddball reg here" ... no response (surprise!).

Honestly, if this happened to someone else and I was reading about it, this would be enough to convince me to get a Palmer LPR instead of an STD. If this LPR pinches the piston o-ring again, I'm going to sell it and pick up a Palmer. Unfortunately, I don't think Palmer makes an Angel LPR.

So anyway, if you need any -014 o-rings, let me know, I have about 5 billion of them...
