You'd be surprised how well a newly formed team can do. And if you're all Freshmen, you'll be VERY good by the time you're seniors. I know I went from never having played a tournament to National Champions in less than two years.
Also, we do let students from more than one college participate on teams in the college league sometimes - if you're short a player but can pick one up from a community college or another University let me know and we can work with that. We'd much rather see you recruit new players from within your college though.
Are you guys starting a recreational club? The most successful teams are the ones who have large rec clubs because they pull new tournament players from them, coach them, and a year later have formidable players. (Schools like UofI, Purdue, ISU are masters at this - UofI and ISU have 20 tournament players, 80-90% of which had zero tournament experience when they joined the college team. They're also the schools who took the top three spots this last MICT.)
