      Brass Eagle / Ions would be like a Glock .45 (or anything larger than 9mm); i.e., it's made of plastic and when you pull the trigger it might put a shot where you want or explode on you instead

              The US had a "grease gun", know as the M3A1 http://www.ginklai.net/images/galerija/2662_m3_a1_2.jpg

              .45, cheap/ easy to make (stamped aluminium parts). Much cheaper and more simple than the thompson... Came out in 1944......iirc. I know they had more of a role in the Pacific front....

                  Sten was the uber cheap. Bike shops in france actualy made the from bike parts. I tihnk the allies droped them from planes as well...
