what are we really looking for in a marker?

just a question that just popped in my head...

what is everyone here looking for in a marker?

    -reliablity
    -eficiency
    -accuracy
    -no ball breaks
    -simplicity

what else? i've been thinking of selling out, but i might just go the retro way.

    1. Shoots when I pull trigger. 2. Puts balls roughly where I was aiming. 3. Repeats steps 1 and 2 for rest of day, every day.

I would like a marker that stuns the opponent so that by the 5th or 6th ball I can finally hit them. But seriously I could live with, no breaks, lighter weight, and reliable. With my mag I have everything but the weight thing but I can't complain too much.

          I'd add:

          - Build quality. Don't want some junk that work's well...WHEN it works. Goes along with reliability I suppose.

          - Decent rate of fire. No, I don't need some SuperDuperOvershooterDeluxe that'll launch 6,000 bps (though I'm sure the paintball manufacturuers would like to sell me one). But I don't want something that'll just do 2 bps either.

          - Ease of maintenance. If I've got to fiddle with my paintball gun at home or the field, it'd be nice if the gun was simple and easy to fix.

          - Nice trigger pull. Of course, this one is highly subjective. For me, a 'nice trigger pull' is what I have with my RetroMini. I'm not a fan of the mouse click electronic triggers, nor the longer pulls of guns such as Cockers & Spyders.

          - Quality of engineering. When I buy a paintball gun, I don't want to feel that I "have to" spend a buncha $$ on getting this-that-or-the-other part to make it better (I'm talking about performance, not looks) as is such the rage in Cocker/Spyder/Impy/etc -land. If there are different versions with 'Milling by X', that's fine. Me, I'd rather spend my $$ on actually playing paintball rather than buying the new super duper 860 way valve that'll supposedly increase my gun's performance so much that it'll "make my game better".

A nice example of both ends of this is Shocktech. On the one hand, in Shocktech's versions of some guns (SFL Cocker & SFL e-Matrix) they replace some of the factory internals with their own 'improved performance' parts (such as the 'rat valve', 'phat hammer', etc for the Cocker) and do their own custom milling/anno job.

On the other hand, there is Shocktech's version of the E-mag. With the SFL E-Mag...what do they do? They just do a custom milling & anodization job. Why? Because it comes 'right' from the factory.

Theses are what i look for. not in any specific order

            -realiability,
            -accuracy
            -eficiency
            and you forgot ROF

-Smooth, short, mechanical (I've had bad experiences with electros) trigger pull.
-Small and at least acceptably light.
              -Reliable, but not butt ugly.
-somewhat accurate. Doesn't have to be closed bolt, for example, but I would prefer low pressure.
-VERY FEW upgrades, but still a tiny bit of selection. I want it ready to rock from the box. But still a small amount of options if I feel like it. Just not a Cocker Spyder deal.

                  5. Size/weight

I want mechanical practicality and ideal cosmetics molded into one gun. I want the gun to look good, but I also want it to be consistant. I want to walk on the field and be able to trust the marker in my hand. If for any reason I'm questioning the performance of my marker, I am not happy. I also like to have the personalization factor. If I look over at the guy standing next to me and he's holding the exact same marker in his hands, then I am not happy. I like to be unique. Overall, I look for a combination of consistancy, cosmetics, and reliabilty.

They swarm with their party, they feel with their party, they are happy in their party's approval; and where the party leads they will follow, whether for right and honor, or through blood and dirt and a mush of mutilated morals."

                      2. efficiency
                      *ROF*(forgot to add this)
                      3. reliablity
                      4. no breaks
                      5. size/weight
                      6. simple maintaining
                      7. fairly easy field strip
                      8. doesn't need very many mods
                      9. looks

I'd probably only consider buying an angel, vaporized bushy, revenge v2 cocker, emag, rt, or rat impy right now. I think that most fit those criteria but I'm on a budget so I have to buy a cheap mag or nice spyder/spyder clone.
