My E-Mag experience. And a question for AGD.

O.K. First, I want to tell you about my E-mag adventures at Pev's yesterday. I shot roughly 2500 marbs through a 12" Dye Ultra. I have the warp feed with a Halo. I had three chops. I forgot to turn my Halo on twice. You do the math. 1 for 2500 is the best ratio of ANY marker I have ever used. The Mag performed FLAWLESSLY! No shootdown. No leaks. No electrical problems. No double feeds. Nothing but unbelievable ROF and accuracy game after game. Beyond the safety nets of the Hyperball field such comments as, "Holy ****" and "Check that out" could be heard throughout the day. AGD.........job well done. I am VERY happy with this marker! And if proper field representation really works, then hopefully you'll have some orders coming in soon, which brings me to my second point.

I am a normal guy who loves the game of paintball. I'm not the best player on the field every weekend. I don't play religously every chance that I get. But I do appreciate having a marker that will put me at the top of my game when I do play. I would assume that by being such a person, I would fall into the category that includes about 70% of all the players out there. There were, at the peak of the day, about 150 players at Pev's on Saturday. I saw 5 mags. I realize that this has been a topic of previous threads but I wish to throw a different perspective on the issue. AGD has THE best customer support of any company out there. AGD ships you a product that is the among the best in the business. AGD has been a pioneer in development and implamentation of countless products throughout the years. AGD genuinely cares about it's "family" of customers. So why does AGD markers represent 5% of all shooters? Why to people mention mags with a cute little smirk on their face as they break down their Angel or Cocker?

Tom.....of all the threads on this topic, I have yet to see you address any of these issues. Your company walks the walk, we all know that. But can't we change the tide of the market? Can't we get more E-mags on the tourney circuits? Sponsorships? I read the current APG magazine and so no ads.....no promotions......hell, I only saw about 5 companies that were even carrying the Mag line. The future of our sport is the young people. These are the same people that see all the Cockers and Angels that the Pros use....OOOOhhhhhhh.....those markers must be the best! What happened to marketing your product? What happened to being the tip of the spear? Aftermarket contracts? What have we done to get back on track? Tom, and everyone else for that matter, please don't take this in any way other that what it is meant to be. A plea. I will never own anything but a Mag. AGD has been too good to me. But for the 100+ players who don't hear about you or read about you or see your markers, they are left with one deciding option.......popularity.

Well i wish i could say the same but old plastic nubbins and 20 degree weather can be a factor. Out of 20 people there was me and one other mag owner. He had no clue what a mag was and just didnt represent well. Thats another big problem around here!!

airgun is makeing a come back with the new emags, there are a lot of people out there useing angels and other guns but when there guns go down most of the time they have to send it back to get it fixed or get help from a tec to fix it,when a mag gos down most of the time the person can fix it them self, with all the new items tom is puting out and stuff hes working on that most people dont know abought yet airguns will be back on top in no time,iv gone out of my way to help people out a lot that shoot airgun designs markers, and with people like rob and kayle and john and tom and the girls and guys at airgun, you cant get and better people to help you when you need it,so just keep the faith airguns will be back on top...///

            Thanks guys!

The situation is more painfull to me than it is to you. You would think that if you put out a good product and treated your customers well, that would result in a decent market share. Unfortunately this is paintball which does not function like a normal industry.

It is mostly driven by perception and momentum. We all know from this forum that perception is a powerfull force and just "Stating the facts" can have little effect on the view of the general paintball poplulation.

As we continue to push and with your help, the word will spread and things will change with time.

actually i think most consumer industries are driven with things other than the facts.

my $20 pair of shoes are the most comfortable and longest lasting pair ive ever worn.

but all we, as responsible mag owners, can do is answer questions honestly and patiently and hope people make the right choice.

                I agree tom... its saddening.

Unfortunately its all in marketing. Paintball is the most overhyped overmarketed industry in existence. You tell people what they want to hear and they belive you.

If you tell people that you have a product that allows money to grow on trees, impossible as it may be, its just too good not to believe.

Another phenomenon to consider. Why is AOL the number one service in America? I have it and yet it sucks. I get nothing but junk mail, thy conveneiently bother you with pop up ads, the e-mail client is weak at best, thier messaging software is actually less powerful than the one they offer for free!, the integrated browser has less functionality than the free version of IE, and the content is nothing special. On top of that they want to charge me $15 a month for a connection that I provide myself. GET THIS my father has been an employee of AOL Time Warner for YEARS. Even with internal connections customer service is NON-EXISTENT! He dosent even get discounts for service!

Unfortunately this is the formula to success... Please tom dont do this...

Spend all your money on marketing...
                Crap on your customers...
                Crap on your employees...
                Low priority on customer service...
Figure out ways to make more money by posting Advertisements and pop up ads on your premium service!

And most importantly LIE like a big old persian rug...

Tada... you have the number one ISP in the country...

I got duped by highfalutan marketing. Everbody else has it so it must be good attitude...

Err I can go on for hours...
Did you hear about the new european weapons contracts? France is going to make the wooden sticks Spain making the little white flags

Does AGD have a full time marketing person? You have to get your shiny new products in front of people's faces... that means ads in magazines, banners on websites, etc. There is no law that says you can't sensationalize a good product. That way when a kid sees some guy with an SFL he can say, "hey look, that guys got the new SFL" instead of saying, "what the heck is that?" If the kid knows a little something about the gun, he is 100% more likely to go up and talk to the guy with the SFL, because he doesn't feel stupid about not knowing anything about it. Of course the guy with the SFL is going to say stuff like "it's awesome" "the best gun i've ever owned" and stuff like that. Then the kid is going to want one. But it all started with the add in the magazine.

I've never seen that work in any other industry either. The best marketed product gets the largest market share. Not the best product. Those with the best product tend to spend all their efforts on the product, not on marketing. It's a catch 22.

Gup.........that's exactly my point! MARKETING! MARKETING! MARKETING!
Get the products in the magazines. Get those markers in the hands of more professional tourney players. AGD has all the tools that it needs to power over this industry. If I had time, I would count all of the sensational advertisements that I see for cockers in the three major magazines but I don't have to. You all know what the results would be. I'm certainly no professional on the subject......just my opinion.

I have to agree with Momags 100%. I don't think that word of mouth alone is going to reestablish AGD as the preeminent maker of markers in paintball. That is not to say that word of mouth is not effective. I own an automag because the person who drew me into paintball used one. I saw first hand the quality and reliability of mags, and he told me about AGD's unparalleled customer service.

Unfortunately, I am one of a small minority. Most newer players don't know alot of experienced mag users because we are greatly outnumbered by the legions of players sporting cockers, angels, and the mass of new cheap electros. I recommend AGD and mags to newer players at every opportunity, but I realistically realize that my recommendation is likely to get drowned out by other players using more popular markers.

If,as Tom says and I believe, success in the paintball market is driven by perception and momentum, then AGD needs to attack perception by agressively sponsoring professional teams and marketing the emag as the best, most versatile and most reliable elite marker on the market. Until then, I just don't feel like those of us who consistently recommend AGD and mags to other players will be able to convince a larger number of newer players of AGD's exceptional commitment to quality and customer service. Don't get me wrong, as long as I play paintball I will sing the praises of AGD and mags, I would just like to know that sometime in the future there will be a substantially greater percentage of paintball players singing along with me.

what do I think.... I will tell you. To be honest mags are old. People new to the sport or who are getting their first guns don't want an old gun. Back when I bought my calssic mag (a few years back)I didnt think it looked that cool. I was told by many people that it was a nice gun and I was also getting a good deal on it. I almost didn't get it because it looked so boring and old. It was either the mag or a cocker and I didn't want to mess with cockers, so I got the mag. I loved my mag and I still think that it is a great gun. Well, these new people want new guns that look "cool". You may say "WEll there is the E-mag, it is new and nice looking." You are right but most people are not buying these high dollar guns. Calssic mags come in this boring dull color. It is not flashy or "cool" in the eyes of these new players. Sure you can buy crome or black bodies but, again, new players wont want to buy this extra stuff. Thses cheap new electros can shoot fast and have mouse click triggers are taking the RT and even the E-Mag crowd away. I think there needs to be a new mag. Maybe to replace the classic and 68. Maybe an updated look that might appeal more to the people who are looking for their first or second gun. Colored bodies, maybe even a new body style. I dont think the internals need to be changed, just the body. It just needs a new look. Don't get me wrong. I love how the mag works, looks, feels, and proforms, but it is hard to get people to buy guns that don't stand out in the crowd. We have to remember that most of the poeple who play paintball are not going to be buying high dollar guns.
