Work for Vector marketing in the Accounting Dept, which basically means I put off everything I should be doing and actually cruise around the AO and pbnation, while dreaming about playing paintball. Instead of staring at spreadsheets.

I'm a homeless person. Out on the streets. People feel sorry for me and give me Paintball equipment. GO FIGURE!!!

No seriously...I am the Environmental Compliance Officer for Clemson University. Involves Hazardous Waste and such, EPA & DOT compliance type of stuff. Been here 21 years only 7 in this postition. Used to run all the Animal Research Facilities and then was in Health Physics (Radiation Safety) for a bit before this. It is an upper mid level state job so it is taxing for me to scrape enough together to play but I manage to about once a month. Every once in a while twice. Have to come up with enough for the kid too. I budget $100 a month for it. One case of paint at $55 and the rest saves up for parts and such plus my other hobbies have to come out of that.

ha! Im a 21 year old poor 3rd year college student. I pay for my paintball equipment with extra money from College Loans! I dont live on campus so I can save lots of money. I work at my schools Recreation Center (Gym) at the Juice Bar. Yup. I make protien shakes, smoothies, veggie juices etc. all day long. But I love it. I live in the gym, seriously, sometimes I go two-three times a day. Swim for an hour, go do a quick 3 mile run, go to class, go back to some lifting, etc... very very fun!!! Plus its free!

I'm the Director of Information Systems for a mid-sized architecture firm... and quitting.

Previously, I was a energy trader, efficiency analyst, network engineer, & security specialist & then muddled through several years as a NOC manager before 'settling down' and taking the DIS job. After evaluating the current economy, Houston's sad state of affairs (Enron, Continental, & Compaq have laid off ~ 11,000 people in the last 6 months), I have decided to jump off the CIO/CTO track.

Within two months I will be transitioning into the automobile wholesale business. From a professional IT position to used car salesman? Ah, but triple the pay

Aside from other expensive hobbies, a wife, house, & two car payments, I use aggressive trading to offset the cost of paintball equipment.

I'm a second level tech support dude. I'm also the IT coordinator for my company's production facility.

Hey, it's a step up to Director.

It pays VERY well, almost too well for what I do. They do that to keep us happy and snug and not wanting to leave for "greener pastures".

                    I can't complain, my wallet's fat.

Yes, it is. Be very careful about that "overpaid" thing. It'll bite you in the @ss if business goes sour. Make sure you don't stagnate & lock yourself into your job (i.e. unable to find another job at the same pay scale). Always, always, work to improve your worth to the company and marketability to prospects.

I know too many guys that I came up with that got left behind because they kept waiting for their company to pick up the tab on training or didn't finish their degrees.

Thanks G_G. I have my degree, and I'm working on my 2k MCSE. I gave up on my NT one, hey I'm an MCP anyway.

My department's pretty small, we all have specialties. I am the best hardware guy, but that doesn't keep me out of the servers. We cross-train and pump each other for info as much as possible.

My short-term goal is to pay off my debts, get a house, then start working on some Router config and LAN administration. That is, if I don't end up in a management position.

/edit I forgot... I work for a French conglomerate... if a division starts to not make as much profit, the other divisions pay more to balance it. We have few layoffs, where I work the skilled laborers make 2/3rds what I do... and aren't exactly loitering on the street corner waiting for employment.
