    How old is this marker?

I know this isn't a mag but it is still interesting.

This is a Tippmann 68 Special.

This is the 1st gun I owned. It was purchased sometime between 1993 and 1996. It was used when I bought it. So I don't know how old it is. I used it a few times over a couple years before purchasing my pre-star automag in 1996 or 1997.

I'm wondering how old this gun is and how much it might be worth?

    The serial # is 5176

    Thanks for any info.

I saw one on ebay a few days ago that was purple (i think) and he was asking $150. I don't know if it sold. It looked pretty beat up.

Yeah, I'm hoping to trade this to a collector for a pump gun.

Nope. Supposedly it was one of the 1st successful semi's.

no its not a pump. the front grip is just a foamy type material that you hold onto. try looking at tippmans website and send them an email if you dont find any info. alst try pbreview, they have a good library of markers old and new.

68 Specials came out in late '89 or early '90, and were superceded by the Pro-Am by '93. I can't read the serial number, but if it's "5-something" like it looks, I'd say that falls in the middle somewhere. Very rough guess late '91 to mid '92.

I tried selling one in- no offense- better condition a year or so ago, and the eBay bid never got above $125. Mine had the factory foregrip, strap, loader and original siphon tank.

Yours is pretty heavily used, missing the foregrip, wrong barrel clamp screw, etc. Worse, I see the back plug has been stripped, and is not held in by pins and screws.

If it works and doesn't leak, $40 to $50 is about the max it's worth. There's not as much "collectors" value to them because first, Tippmann made a bunch of them, and second, hey, it's a Tippmann. They didn't exactly wear out, break down and get thrown away, so there's still a bunch of them around.

                    Doc.

Yeah, thats how it was when I got it. When you say "and is not held in by pins and screws." Should it be held in by pins and screws? Mine has about 3 different screws going through the body into the plug.
