I've looked into the same thing a little.
Most scuba tanks are only 3000.
4000 psi scuba tanks are pricier and harder to come by.
I get my 68/4500 filled at the local scuba shop, but only to 4000 psi.
The closest paintball shop fills to 4500 but charges twice as much.
If you don't mind only filling to 3000 you can pick a used scuba tank for under $100.
    New ones are about $175.

You use a scuba tank that is filled by a scuba shop...
Usually anyhting that holds over 3000 psi is VERY expensive and there is no guarantee that the shop could fill it all the way anyway. Also, some shops might require you to show scuba certification in order to get a fill...

Two guys I play with have tanks. One of them has the JAVA fill adapter. It works quite well. Problem is dive shops only fill to 3k. And IIRC dive shops legally can only fill the tank if you have a SCUBA certification.

If you are thinking about doing this then here are 2 great pages to visit.

The first one tells you what psi your hp will be filled to after each fill with a 3000psi scuba.
Basically you fill in the values for the scuba tank you will be using, then what size hp tank you have, then when you normally refill your tank.

If you are using a mag you want to refill at about 1000 psi
              tank fill calculator

This next page gives you a rough estimate how many shots you should be able to get with the psi that your hp has in it.
Basically you check how much air your gun uses. EX: Mag = gas hog. Then you fill in how big your tank is. Ex:68ci. Then you put in your psi. This is the number you just got from the first link.

              shot calculator

You will also see that if you use 2 scuba tanks you will be able to fill your hp to a higher psi which is also better for a mag.

i fill with scuba tanks. i think i paid $150 for a 3000psi new scuba tank at a scuba shop and they gave me a card for 10 refills. i think refill r going for $3-5. Every year there is a visual inspection which is around $30 bucks per tank and every 3 or 5 year it needs to be hydo(not sure how much that will be). the owner of the scuba shop says some shops in the area will not sell scuba tanks to paintball players.

Most insurance for paintball fields wont allow players to use personal scuba tanks for filling their own tanks.
So if you are just playing renegade in the woods or a private field a scuba tank is what you need. No scuba shop around here will fill to more than 3000 though.
So you may be able to find an expensive 4500 psi scuba tank, but you might be wasting your money. Find out before you buy.
If you play at fields then just go with a 4500 paintball tank and pay for the all day air.
Fills to 4500 is the best scenario.

it depends on the shop, I've seen it both ways. Always best to check in advance (not that it matters for me )

4500 scubas are 400 bucks new, and most paintball shops, least around here, will fill them, the price isnt bad at all, and if i played more woodsball id buy one, i might get one anyways, just cuz

get a couple of 3k scubas and they work fine. We have a dozen people with hpa on any given day, and I can keep all of them full. (we have alot of mags/gas hogs too)
