    Had a terrible scrimmage today....

Not that we did badly, just the attitude was very thick. I tried to imagine it wasn't going to be like this....lol. Two bubbles popped within a couple of weeks.

Went out to a field to scrimmage with their home team(s) for the upcoming Tarheel CFOA. We played our first game against their Novice team. They absolutely rolled us the first game. It was embarrassing. There were no refs, and the game was very "aggressive" for a scrimmage. It was suprizing to us in that before the game the other teams cpt. had made a little speech about this being a friendly game, and lets have no moaning about overshooting and cheating, etc... We chalked it up as "its like that" and went about our game.

So the next game we come out with our new found attitude and managed to beat them. It was a close game, we didn't roll them or anything. Admittedly we were guilty of overshooting them about as bad as they had us the first game. The third game was intense. There was a lot of paint being flung by everyone. It was like vendetta ball going on out there. Coming out I got shot in my upraised hand about 9 ft in the air...things were getting pissy.....

There ends up being 2 people left on each team in mirrors about 15 feet from each other. My team was crossed up as the other tried duel runs to the "outside" of the opposing mirrors. Both our players remained crossed and eliminated the others. One of the two of them continues on about 5 steps and blazes one of our players, well late after being hit. Our player spun back out and shot the other player back as he was turning, so in essence in his shoulder and back.

As he was coming off the field, finding out about who had done it he states "We'll see about that" as he walks by , our player
confronts the one who said it......
To make a really long story short. The cpt. of our team swears he will never go to this field again. I am pretty put off by the whole thing, because I used to play with these guys, and considered, at least up until today, many of them my friend. A lot of what I witnessed today was completly w/o integrity or honor. I really am left with a feeling like there was an adjenda(sp?) to their actions. We came to scrimmage against them and their beginner team. Never saw any but their best.
And in spite it all, we still went away 2-1 in the games we played....

Yuo know i've seen alot of this at the fields I play at. in tournaments, woods ball and speed ball. people comming out or on feild yelling and bickering over something that happend. one guy shooting to much, another not calling himself the exact moment he was hit, bunkering, talking ** or any numer of things...

paintball is a very competive, reaction based sport. when peoples adrinaline is pumping and they want to win...things are going to happen...over shooting, bunkering , ect...you have to expect it when you play even if you disagree with it. personally i dont care if i get bunkered or over shot...dosent bother me in the slightest. howerever that dosent stop me thinking of my opponent either. when it comes right down to it we play to have fun..we all know this...but we still let our emotions get the best of us. when someone gets bonus balled for doing something silly, does that really help the situation any? not really...just pisses em off and the circle keeps going.."well you did this" "but you did this" "you were doing..."

I hope someone understands that mess up there ^ and atleast came close to the point you were making in your post...

Well speedball seems to bring out the "win at all cost" attitude out of most players to some degree. I believe this is simply because speedball is such a costly game that it doesn't allow much room for a friendly game. When you go to a tournament and each player dumps $100-200 in paint they want to try and win to get that back. This isn't the case with every single player, but it seems to be a trend. Why play a casual speedball tournament when you could play a less expensive woodsball event and potentially e on the fireld playing for longer since you aren't waiting for other games to finish.

A concept our tournament circut has come up with is hopper ball for all events. You get 200 rounds per player divided up amongst your team any way you choose. Basically a hopper full of paint per person and that is it. It makes the game more dynamic, by forcing people to use tactics other than rain down on the enemy until they are all dead; then move for the flag.

Well I hope you find a group that is a little more layed back. There is not point being super agressive in scrimmage just to win the scrim. The whole point of scrimmage is to play in an environment where your mistakes can be observed and pointed out to improve upon. It doesn't sound like there was any of that in your games.

Meh..that stuff isn't worth getting upset about, thought there is a limit. Everyone needs to just learn to leave problems on the field..

Yesterday we played a tournament...I shot this guy at homeplate, I watched my bright orange paint break on his side (rib cage area) as I yell for a ref to check him. he tucks up tight into the bunker and wa-la it's gone...man will that make you mad...well I walked off the field and thought to myself, " I should go confront him" but then I decided it was better left alone off field...so I made a little mental not as too what the guys looks like for next time I play him.

I can stand around at the fields at SC village and watch this happen all day.

Obvious hits getting wiped off, Players getting mad cause they supposedly hit a guy. It's just unfortunate that the game is becoming that way. If I'm hit I'm hit I'll walk out, but man theres just something about speedball that brings the SilverBack Gorilla's out to play. Walk out! It's a game it's not worth it to fight and get kicked off the field.

heres the way i look at all competitive sports. you are better than any player that must cheat to win. if someone resorted to cheating, and wins than they are only good at cheating. I take pride in playing straight and in knowing that it takes skills not to cheat in a game that makes it so easy to.

where we play there aren't refs on the field. my rule is if i'm hit, i'm hit. u can tell most of the time the differnce between a bounce and a hit. if i can't confirm the hit and i'm not sure if it;s a hit or not, i'll call it a hit. then check with the guys i'm playing with. honor will get you 10 times the respect and class than cheating.
              shoot you later
i play for the game not the fame.

We generally play without refs for practice.

Yesterday I was moving to the cover the snake player who had probably overextended a bit to get there. The other teams snake player was making a run down it. I stopped, stood, and shot him to try to protect my player but he took my player out, and I got hit because I was standing to shoot in the middle of nowhere. All three of us left the field, not really happy that he "took" my snake player, I think it was late but there was no way of any of us really being able to sort it out (three eliminations within ten feet in a second or two time).

Thankfully the people I play with generally manage to come to some agreement. Most of the time in "really close" calls everyone goes. Even if you "know" you got someone first. Consider the fact that most of the time in really close calls refs take everyone anyways.

Keep in mind these are tournament players - things change when theres refs on the field.

Sounds rough. Maybe take some time to play with not-so-serious folks, or try something new like scenario or pump play.

Our motto is "Leave it on the field". We play with and against a lot of good players both in practice and in tournaments. We play with intensity, even in practice. You have to, to keep your spot in the roster. The odd time there is yelling about overshooting or "I got you first". Generally, the players walk away and it is over. We are back to friendly conversation off the field. In practice, it doesn't matter. In a game its down to the refs discretion. You can't do anything about it so why fight about it.
Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

the field me and my brothers and friends play at his pretty nice...
a hyper ball field, airball, speedball (doubles as a "capture the fort"), and a vietnam"ish" field..

when i play hyperball and airball alot of the time it is cpmpteitive...

but i play casual on most of the fields.. having fun and playing with kids with rentals is fun for me...
but times where people jump in with "noobs" and "rentals" and just shoot the piss out of them.. and treat them badly... i tend to do my own justice...

if i see someone get overshot i will overshoot that person, or give them a few if they are walking off the field...

the refs allow it bc they know me enough that
A- i can stick up for myself if it gets physical
B- i am like family with the owners/workers
C- i keep things fun for everyone

and when people overshoot, cheat, and play unfair i make a large effort to make them learn a lesson...
