Paintball Talk is the main forum for Automags.org. Here is where we talk about the sport of paintball in general and make announcements relating to the forum and website.

I have to say that I was really impressed when it showed up too. I expected it to be half plastic but it is really sturdy and all aluminum except for the butt pad. The q pods just tuck right under it too.

Here is a picture of my youngest with my son. She was 4 at the time. She is shooting a barrel in our paintball field.

I believe in getting kids involved in the sport as young as you can as long as they WANT to and it is safe. My son started playing when he was 8, and all of my kids have played throughout the years (my older daughters have stopped) and I see no reason why my youngest will not take up the sport.

awsome story guys, I know I often lend out my freestyle or my emag to people and they are always shocked I guess they are used to some crappy rental or something.

Awesome story! I love hearing about good kids.

My daughter couldn't wait to play after hearing stories from the field all her life.
She was four when I took her with me to the World Cup, at age ten she won MVP/YG at an MXS game down @ EMR.

Man that was a great story and I love to ball with the kids. I dont play as much rec ball as I use to, but I am sure you've seen guys stack teams and go out and try to newbie bash and call that paintball. This burns me up and so me and my buds normally end up playing on what people think is the weaker team. One thing I have learned about the little ones is that if you lead they will fallow. With a little pregame pep talk and stradgy session on how to play the game they can hold teir own with anyone. And when ever I build a new gun I always take it to the field and let the renters test it out. Yeah, its the cheap way of seeing if my stuff is working, but they love the experence and usual tell me that they want a mag to.

I usually play while my son refs at the local field, anyway I got there late and decided not to. Some kid was there trying to get the reg on his impulse to quit blowing o rings, no luck. He was looking kinda down, not being able to play so I offered him my E-Mag. The first reaction was what is an E-Mag? I had just built a clamping feed neck elbow to put the Pulse hopper on the powerfeed body, (the revvy wasn't keeping up with the X-Mod )and told him to watch that it didn't come loose, the elbow was kind of a rig so I wasn't sure it would hold.
Needless to say he had a blast. All he could talk about was how cool the mag was, started asking where he could get one.
I'm the "mag guy" at the local field, and if any of the kids want to give the mag a try, I let them. I usually use my mechancial setup, but keep the E-mag along in case I feel the need for more "firepower" when some of the teams show up and start ripping.

What is it about young kids and paintball?

Years ago, I was playing recball at the local field and noticed a mother and father playing with some pretty young kids. Their son was, I believe, about 10, and the daughter was definitely 6 at the time. Anyway, in one of the games, I'm rolling heavily up the right tape, getting some long ball elims, but mostly close quarter surrenders as this field has a "20-foot rule", so I'm pretty close to most of the opposing team. Near the end of the field, I zap dad, surrender mom, and there's the daughter all by herself, right near the edge of the 20 foot interdiction zone... and right in the middle of no-man's land with no cover between me and her. I could have gotten closer, but I'd have eaten it from across the field, and pretty much my only option was the bunk this little lady was occupying. I'm playing it as safe as possible, yelling at her at the top of my lungs (which weren't too hot, you know how excited and loud you get while playing), winging warning shots at her bunker, and still utterly failing to get her attention and SURRENDER!! *sigh* So, finally, with much biting of lip, I take a shot at her hopper... which ends up dead center of her goggle lens. Oh, I could hear it right then: the wailing, the gnashing of teeth, the rending of hair, and the list goes on. Dreading all of the above, I suck it up like a man and hunt down the family to apologize and encourage the little tyke to keep at it, whereupon I'm greeted by this enormous grin from a 6-year old mouth.

"Did you shoot me?!" she asked, all smiles.
"Um, yeah, that was me... are you okay?" looking to parents for the a**-chewing of doom.
"That was AWESOME!! Wanna do it AGAIN!!!!" And you could hear the extra exclamation points, too. Her parents, far more relieved than I was that Young Lady Death-with-a-Marker was thrilled by the outcome of our encounter, were trying to come up with the facial expression for "thank you so much for shooting our daughter in the face."

                        Kids are great...
