Thanks phyregod! for the suggestion of sticky hand material... I finally found something similar here in Canada and it has re-newed my faith in my z-mag... before the rubber nubbin that came with it didnt grip paintballs enuff or consistently enuff... now I cut out some sticky spider stuff from those $1 vending machine, replace the nubbin with the lopped sticky spider and it's sticking like fresh poop! getting a lot more consistent spin! hooyah!

the teflon barrel treatment works great and with regards to the design, the gripping material shouldn't be too long... max length i say is the same diameter as the paintball... guessing here but any longer and you get the same result if not worse but you would need more energy to get the ball rolling up to speed...

one of the problems of the z body is that to crono it you back the bumper all the way out to see what the max fps would be then dial in the spin so you get a lower fps than every one w/ normal barrels.

I'd definitely like to see results on that prototype.

                Prototype 1.0: Needs more work.

cool. Two minds are better than one! IT NEEDS MORE WORK I built one proto with four 1/4 inch holes spaced 1/2 inch apart for the last two inches of the barrel.

What I found is this... The first paintball looks like it was fired straight out of a flatline. The second shot is close, the third looks as though it was fired out of a normal barrel.. By the 10th or 15th shot the barrel breaks every third or fourth shot. The sticky material isn't nearly durable enough. I'm going to instead try more ports in the top, and a more durable material, such as that 100% silicon window sealer.. Maybe shrink the ports down a little... I'll let ya know how that goes.

I have heard of using a rubber band. Just cut it and then tape or glue as needed.

Also. Here is a "Flatline Mod" from another website.

i tryed this useing hard and soft rubber and an o ring

                    the hard rubber broke paint
the soft didnt induce enof backspin
and the o ring wasnt strong enof (i took a broken oring and stick it thru the back port down thru the barrel top and back up thru the front port)

tomorrow im going to get a sticky hand......now its just a matter of who gets to the pattent office first

(to fix the barrel screw in problem i just put alittle elctical tape around the threads and then screwed it in so the backspinner was on top and the tape held the barrel in place rather nicly)

Whay not just take a hack saw and make a cut accross the bareal on the top and put an o ring on it the the O ring touches the paintball on the top before it leaves the barrel?

                        just a thought.....
wouldn't PMI/RPS be better for shooting, since they have a texture?

The fake flatline mod that Midnight posted works great. I've done it, and it definitely adds range. Unfortunately it gets squeeged out within 2 or 3 breaks, so it's temporary.

Some people put a small piece of electrical tape inside the end of their barrel at the top, and one guy puts a little vaseline inside to give the first 50 or so balls extra distance off the break. Then the vaseline is shot out and the marker shoots normally for the rest of the game.

I'd say this means your idea definitely has merit, but it's not a new idea - just possibly a new method of applying the idea.

I've considered running a very thin piece of 100 grit sandpaper down the top of my barrel to increase friction at the top to make a fake flatline mod, only more permanent.
