Screw SP Paintguns powered by "thought"

Its not as hard or far fetched as one might think.

I just got out of an awesome physyo demonstration where muscle action potentials were shown on the computer by using surface electrodes as well as fine wire electrodes.

If we put surface electrodes on the gripframe all we need is a program that will translate the Action potential into a shot.

This would not be hard to do but would probably requre more processing power than a PIC microchip but not much more... The demo was done on an old Intel 386.

    Lets discuss...

      It's called an angel.

As for the idea. I'd like to see it and since the only "on/off switch" would be your brain, id like to see Smart Parts try and patent that. Perhaps God could sue them.

        Could be bad

Sounds very interesting.. But in the heat of paintball with running and diving and adrenaline flying.. would that thing be shooting constantly??

          Probably...

Thats what the processor is for to filter out subthreshold potentials.

If we only have the surface electrode in a "trigger area" this could be avoided by not touching that part of the marker.

          Touch THINK Fire...

Depending on your muscle type you can think up to 100 bps!

The biggest problem is surface electrode sensitivity... It may not be sensitive enough... Results can definatley be had with fine wire imbedded electrodes.

It's definately possible, they've been doing that with motorized prostetics for a while now.Legallity would be your biggest obstical.

But that wouldnt be NPPL legal. Remember the idea of you must exert force to fire the gun. And a lever must be used. And unless you have a lever in your head this wouldnt be legal. But it is a very neat idea.

that idea could be bad if u could set the gun down, walk away, and think about shooting. at school, think, man i would love to bunker such student/teacher and at home ur gun is firing balls at a wall. would make a nice remote fire gun.

Ummm... you would need a high power transmitter strapped to you to do that.

nope. still wouldn't work. because the thought power would be closing an electrical switch of some sort, in order to allow the solenoid in your gun to actuate, thereby covered under SP's crappy patent. Even if you channeled the electricity THROUGH your mind, you're still completing an electrical connection.

Unless of course, you plan on moving the bolt and actuating the valving system by pure mind power, aka Telekinesis. Then, that'd be SWEET. --Funk

Sometimes, the reflexes are faster than your thoughts. We train our selves to shoot fast without really thinking about it. If we involve thought, it will probably slow us down because now we have to divide our thought processes among knowing whats going on around us and shooting. The more automated our processes become the better player we are. Thats what practice does. It automates our processes so that we don't have to think about them. They just happen.

Now if we can intercept the automated impulses sent to the muscles, we are no longer slowed by movement limitations and the automated processes may still hold true.

                          Neat idea.
