This is my first try at a deep blue post, but here goes, At work today I thought up a new idea for a marker that would not need an air source. It would be a single tube style, with (moving forwards from the back) a solinoid, compresion chamber, bolt, then barrel. A battery would power the solinoid and the trigger frame. The solinoid pushes a plunger forward in the compresion chamber, creating compresed air. This air is then released towards the ball in front of this when the trigger is pulled. The plunger would then move back, letting the vacume escape through a valve or hole of sorts, then move forward again recreating the air presure. The only problems I can find are that the battery would most likely have to be huge to power the whole operation, and how to keep the pressurized air inside the chamber before firing. Other than that I cant think of anything worg with this idea. I hope this will fly on the Deep Blue, if so, please post your thoughts. Thanks in advance, Mike

I'm not sure, but I think this is a lot like the way electric airsoft guns operate. Give it a shot.Z-man - "I would say we are not so much proud as...viscously loyal. More help please
Thanks for the post, and looks like my thread is gonna stay (YEAH!!!). I still would like more input on the idea. I dont have anything to make one with, but if someone does, please post! Or tell me if it sucks and why. Thanks so much

It is certainly possible. It very well may be the way some airsoft guns work. The problem is that it is not a practical way to launch a paintball. A plastic airsoft "BB" is 3 grams if I remember correctly. A paintball is 33 grams. At least I think these are correct numbers. Regardless, the airsoft projectile is EXTERMELY lighter that a paintball. The size of the solenoid would be prohibitive. Think something like five inches in diameter and maybe 10 pounds. Then you come to the battery. Think car battery.
While it is certainly doable, it just won't work "better" than compressed air from a tank.

Then if you want to get really into this idea, find a way to run an alternator to the battery so it never wears out. Maybe you'll need a small combustion engine, but with the gas prices these days....Z-man - "I would say we are not so much proud as...viscously loyal. figures...
Well at least i gave it a try, i did find out just how big the electric parts would need to be, and heavy. But dont they say that heavy guns are more stable, which means more acuracy
? Well at least I got a deep Blue post under my belt. Any other thoughts are still welcome.

It is a fine idea. It's good enough that someone has already done it.Originally posted by NewbieMagMan10988Well at least i gave it a try...
It's just that it is not practical for paintball.
Good idea, none the less.

what are you talking about!?!?
this is a bad idea man the solinoid would have to be huge along with the battery.but it surly would be lighter then a 68 automag classic with lapco big shot and some palmer sticking way out on the left. man with that post i would have thought you live in muskegon MI i wish sombody would just gog you with there jt excellerator 6.0 and tape it so i could laugh at it. if sombody did that they would be the smartest man in the world. you probley go to some crazy pb camp where they dont even have compressed air. jk mike interesting?!?http://www.directaffect.com/dev/jason/ao_states/images/ao_mi.gif

Actually the best way would be to use an Electric Motor attached to the compresor piston. It would work just like your shop air compresor.
You would need to make the marker operate on a low enough presure so you can use a smaller compressor, and have it a manageable size. It will still be big, but not car battery big. I would guess more like 2 emag batteries would sufice.
It would be better for a full auto scenario gun, since you can have the compressor running while you fire and not have to start and stop it every couple of seconds. (Think how a minigun has to spool up before it begins to fire)
BTW this is how electric blowback AirSoft guns work.
An interesting Idea, if i have time I may give it a shot in the workshop.Comment

Your memory is off by a factor of 10 in both cases, so the principle of your argument remains the same. :)Originally posted by hitechThe problem is that it is not a practical way to launch a paintball. Paintballs are about 3 grams each. Plastic 6mm airsoft BBs are between 0.2 and 0.3 grams.

mounted
