Hate to say it, but I think that the Palmer Quick Switch already accomplishes what you're looking for.

Or, I've misunderstood the operation of your design.

the valve up above would not be possible due to the fact that at one point (near the bottom, right of the pic of the valve) there is a pathway with 2 90 degree angles in it. That same style could be designed with a slight change. 2 holes and an air-line from one to the other.

my Idea is very similar (air piloted) but a little easier. If you have ever taken apart a solenoid valve ( 3 or 4 way) there is a small rubber gasket inside the moving portion of the solenoid. when the solenoid is activated, the moving portion moves backwards and thus allows air to flow into the pilot, pushing the stem( valve portion) to where it will open the valve and allow large ammounts of air through.

a very short throw 4 way could be designed by eliminating the solenoid and simply putting a gasket on the end of a rod leading into the back of the valve.

Did that conclusion make any sense what so ever? If not, I can blame it on my sad existinse as an insomniac.
