    idea for no bolt-spring mag

well i would hook a ram to the bolt first off, keep the sear/on/ off assembly the way it is, but attatch a one way valve to the side of a mags air chamber then the air would be lpr'd from 450 psi to maybe 100 or whatever rams work at, since rams work at 100 psi mags work at 450, and 450 > 100 the bolt would fire normally when the sear was disengaged, then the remaining 100 would reset the bolt, with a redesigning of the bolt a mags pressure could be lowered making it more efficient, quieter, and give it less kick

im not sure at all how this would work with level 10 since the bolt force changes throughout its movement forward

Theoretically, if you are making away with the spring, you won't need the sear either!!! And you will need a very fast ram to achieve the bolt speed needed by the mag!! But the theory is sound, it should be doable!!!

The sear would still be necessary, since the ram doesn't need to be holding back the full force of the air in the chamber, the ram would have to work at like 450 PSI and would do worse with air efficiency.

          no, not true.

like I said in the other thread, the efficiency can be improved, and therefore the pressure lowered.

then of course the operating pressure is pushing force on the bolt piston, which is 1/4" dia. it has a force factor of .05
an integrated cylinder can have a force factor of whatever you want it to be. it could be design to run on about 100 psi and still only consume a little over 1 cu. in. of air (at standard atmos. psi)

if you design it properly, it can be done, and be more efficient.

I can see that I'm just going to have to do it and show you guys it is possible to make it work, and work well WITHOUT the sear.

it would consume les air if you kept the sear, but it would defenitely take up more room, possibly cause more wear and/or binding of the bolt.

not to undermind anyones work thus far, but
            (cough) ICD freestyle (/cough). :) :)
single acting ram driven automag type bolt/powertube without the on/off.

            out!

well that's the reason for this recent pop-up of people posting "hey I have a new mag mod idea".

I'm now aware of the freestyle design (since it came out) we had been discussing the idea long before any of us knew abou the function or existence of the freestyle.

it is very useful info actually. I think it shows that what I'm talking about is possible, and the idea can be more efficient in the mag, than it is in the freestyle due to the supply air control in the mag.
