    xmod

i just recently programmed my x-mag with the blue bumper there where no problems as far as working, but i can't forsee any major problems with it. Who needs a level 10 when you can see lol.
Lornecash i will continously give you props on your work.

p.s. i reallly don't know how people can sit back and wait for this mod...I hope you all get your guns soon cause i can't tell you how many tighty whitey's i've changed while playing with th new software. It sux being teased doesn't it?

So lets think about this, if you're worried about bolt wear then you should keep your dwell at 25-30. If you want a higher rate of fire you can set your dwell lower but you may have to buy a new bolt every couple years or so depending on how much you play. New bolts are cheap, personally I'd just go with the buy a new bolt option.

I thought Miscue's 4.xx used a lower dwell. Has anyone used that for a long time(over 2yrs)? Do you have any significant bolt wear? Miscue if you wish to comment on this please do.
The following is unofficial AGD commentary - my personal opinions.

I addressed part of this with post #197. I mentioned that sending the solenoid a signal for a duration is not equal to the amount of time that the plunger is actually held, due to residual magnetism... and I described how I could estimate the field strength after the solenoid was shut off. Unfortunately I have no idea where my notes are on this... and only remember that this linger time was significant.

Lowering the dwell time was unacceptable to me, initially. But after I realized that the field was strong long after the signal to the solenoid was shut off... I believed that it could be sent a signal for a shorter duration while simultaneously holding the plunger as long as it needed to be.

4.01 used an experimental 25ms if I remember correctly... and I don't remember Tom officially blessing this. He did say something about how the LX bolt is lighter and he did not know exactly how much faster it returned vs. the L7 bolt... which is the bolt he used to determine the 30ms time.

I don't want to say what I set 4.20 at... because then everyone might think it's okay when I'm not 100% sure - I gave up on further testing a long time ago when I realized the software was not going to be released anyway. Voided warranties... blah blah blah... I don't want to be a part of that.

I will say that it is very low... set on the edge of not working. If I lowered it by about 2 ms, the gun would not fire. A few ms higher... trigger inputs would be within the window where the solenoid is noisy.

I don't have the tools to look at this closely and comment on bolt wear, I don't know the answer to that. Creative_Mayhem (Jeremy) and I think maybe PotatoBoy (Jason) are the only ones who have used 4.20 for a long time. (I've only used it for about 3 minutes). And the results of two people are not necessarily representative of what would happen with every marker.

Lorne's software works differently from mine, and could very well work fine at more conservative settings than 4.x... I don't know how his code works. So, he's in a better position to recommend settings for his stuff... and I'd go with what he has to say. The higher the dwell, the more likely for there to be FA problems if a possible FA condition exists... so keep this in mind if problems are encountered.

Well dang it, I missed post #197. I wasn't paying attention in class just like the good ole days. This information brings the whole issue into new light. Sounds like 15ms could very well be the ideal on duration. Thanks for reposting.

ive been playing around with my SFL with XMOD and havent experienced any issues of it not being fast enough for me or anything like that. even tried it in 20bps nxl with no probs, can hit 17 in semi.

i did have a few problems when i first tried to use the software however, but none of them had to do with the software.
            1. had my battery too low so i would get 1 shot, then the noid would click about 5 times, then fire, etc.
            2. i did experience a little bit of FA affect, but the fi function appears to have taken that out completely.
            3. i did have to change my wires around on my noid because they were installed incorrectly, but that was pretty easy, and i installed a disconnect as well to make taking the noid/board out easier.

if anybody wants to see the mag in action using this software, ill be at PSP Chicago Open playing with UW-Madison in D4 5-man. I'll also be practicing at Badlandz the 2 weeks just before. I'm sure it wont be that hard to spot me using the SFL among a bunch of guys with matrixes.

Lorne: im interested in getting one of the smart jumpers that you have to lock in the tourney modes. if you can pm me a price on that that would be great.

                Xmod 1.5

Here is my official post on how the upload of the software went.......First I ordered an AMTEL programmer as recommended by Lornecash. I received this and sent the 6 pin cable and $60.00 dollars to him, as stated in the manual, for the upgraded cable to flash my X-MAG. Lornecash promptly got my cable and within 24 hours turned it around and sent it to me. I got the cable two days later and sat down to upload the software to the X-MAG. My total turn around time to get the programmer from digi key (Idaho? to North Carolina), send the cable to Lornecash in Wisconsin and back to me in North Carolina....11 days with one weekend in there.

I got the X-MAG ready by following the instructions in the XMOD 1.5 version 4 manual. I uploaded the software for the programmer....needed to download the higher version of the software for the programmer from AMTEL (its free if needed) and started the program on my computer. I followed Lornecash's manual step by step to include the saving of the old 3.2 software and uploaded the new software in about 4 Seconds.....yes 4. The total time it took to flash the X-MAG.....12 minutes....and that is because I'm very methodical (slow) and had to download the updated version of the programming software.

That is right, I waited 11 days for 12 minutes of work and now the X-MAG is a raging beast. Its kinda like...5 minutes with the 17 year old girl....10 minutes in front of the judge, "but your honor I swear I thought she was 20....and 20 years to life for your assumption! Only I'm not going to jail.....unless I torch this baby off on a cheater. The modes and features you can tailor for your marker are incredible! It feels good to be part of a Beta testing crowd. My next post will be in the "BETA Testers only" thread.

For those who can afford it I tell you to do it. Talk to Lornecash about the German programmers he has on tap for this project and get the total deal from him...then your wait time will be a lot shorter. If you don't have the money and have to wait...as long as Lornecash is satisfied with the Beta testing, you should be able to get this later from Him or one of us Beta testers when Lornecash gives the word. I was finally able to sit down and work on the software again this past week and I made several major behind the scenes changes that allowed me to reduce the size of the code by about 7% (that's HUGE). There are only 2 real changes that users will notice:
                  1. I've added a new firing mode for my European users, MIL which is short for Millennium mode. Now they have a legal ramping mode too. basicly its the same as PSP mode but the ramping doesn't start until 8bps.

                  2. The FIX now goes up to 95 (Increased from 46). This will allow Shot buffering to be completely eliminated at lower ROF settings.

This next week I will work on updating the manual to include these changes and also include the installation instructions for the German programmer (ICProg-AVR).

I'm not going to release BETA 1.6 to the US just yet I'm waiting on a Variable DC Power Supply that I ordered so I can more easily test the gun in low battery conditions.

If there are any European XMOD users that already have a programmer would like it now please email me and I will send you the flash right away.

This thread is just way to long so dont yell at me for not reading the whole thing but, which ATMEL programer are u using?
I work for a power supply company and I have the means to recieve the programer most likely for free.

                    Edit:
                    Is the the right one?

There are 3 programmers I've tested successfully.
Atmel AVRISP (Serial, no longer made)
Atmel STK500 (Serial, much more expensice)
ICProg-AVR (USB, I've ordered 50 from germany I've just waiting for them)
