    Wahoo!!!!!!!

Well, its a long and painful story, and I wont bore you with the details, but, after three years, I finally got my patent issued to me today.

I got the Pkg from the Lawyer yesterday, but did not find it until this morning. I knew what it was for, but was scared to open it. Left it on the work bench until I got home from work. Mustered up the courage to open it and the first line started out "We are pleased.....". I screamed like a little girl.

Its got nothing to do with paintball, its a computer thing. Just thought that I would share it with somebody.
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

Well with out getting into too much detail, its a new Input device for the computer. Its really designed to play FPS games. I call it the Shooters Mitt.

I aint gonna post pics, but I will describe it for you.

Thing of a flattened hemisphere of clay, as big as your hand. Hover your hand over the clay, like you are going to push straight down, but offset you hand to the left (this is for the left hand) slightly, and then push your hand print into the clay. Now you have a place to put your hand. Now, at the finger tips, put rocker switches and buttons, (kinda like a mouse button) at the fingertips. Here is how they are laid out:

Visualize your hand, flat on a surface and look down at your hand, and remember, this is for your left hand, and I will explain why in a moment.

Little finger: rocker switch orientated so that when you move your finger from left to right you are moving from one side to the other of the rocker switch.

Ring finger: One mouse type button at finger tip. This finger aint got much dexterity so it cant do much more than that.

Middle finger: Rocker swith orientated so that when you pull your finger back, you activate one side of the rocker, push it forward and you activate the other side of the rocker.

Index finger: Two mouse type buttons located next to each other at the finger tips.

Thumb: OK, the thumb has lots of mobility. In the actual device the thumb is in a deep groove all its own, as are all the fingers. On the sides of the thumb groove are two mouse buttons, one at the top, one at the bottom, and the thumb rests on a rocker switch. You can do 4 different functions with the thumb.

Also, the whole upper surface can tilt to the left, and to the right to activate a button on each side.

As drawn, it can do 13 different thing without having to take your hand out of the device.

I used to play Online FPS, such as MOHAA, and COD, a LOT. I always had difficulty indexing my hand to the keyboard to shoot, move, and communicate with my team mates. If I ever took my hand off of the keyboard, then I would have to look down to make sure that my hands were in the proper place to continue to play. When I looked down, that was usually when the guy with the shotgun would come around the corner and shoot me in the face. Game over for me. What this device does is re-locate the keys that you usually use on the keyboard for movement into a hand form so that if you ever do have to move your hand, then you can put it back EXACTLY where it needs to be with out having to take your eyes off of the display. The middle finger is used for forward and backward, ring finger for left, index for right. Notice that that is only 4 available keys, and there are 13 on this device. Also, remember that I said that the upper form will tilt to the left and the right? Ever have a "lean" function available in a FPS? It is a natural movement with this device. That is a total of 6 functions, got 7 left for you to do whatever you want with them. And, there is very short learning curve with this, you already know how to use it if you pay FPS! The thumb can crawl by hitting the lower wall button, a slight movement with the thumb, or jump by hitting the upper. "Use" can be accomplished with the extra index finger button. Grenades can be one of the thumb rocker buttons. And, that is about all I ever use in a FPS, and there are still three buttons that can be used. All these buttons can be programed in any game, just like you would normally in any game.

It is basically a handprint shaped game pad that you use in conjunction with your normal keyboard. Plugs into a USB socket. Ito moves 13 keys to where you can get to them instantly.

sounds interesting. do you have a prototype or a company to produce it? I'm in to FPS's and would be willing to be a beta tester.

Why, yes. it can. And would probably work very well for that task.

So the real reason for it being left-handed comes out...
you know you play this game too much when the neighbors stop fixing their broken windows...
