I did 10 years active duty Air Force, and five years with the Air Guard. I Highly recommend both. I went places and saw things that I never would have otherwise. Korean winters, Saudi Arabian Summers, the German countryside, and the inside of a Russian toilet bowl (too much Vodka). I got shot at, beat up, and married (12 years and counting). I met some of the smartest, and dumbest people on the planet. I pulled 9 G's, and broke the sound barrier. I worked with true Heros. I worked my *** off. The choice you make will affect you the rest of your life. Do it for a reason, get something out of it (life experience, money for college, a career, world travel, whatever). There are no guarantees, but you will never, i repeat, NEVER, have a chance at that great adventure workin' a 9-5 job in your corner of the USA.
Step forward, or dont, its up to you.

thanks for everyone else' input. i apericate it.
i did the same thing ...even got a few ASE certifications (now expired) under my belt ... did it for a year ... now i'm stuck in a corporate job and i've been mildly successful for not having a degree ...

anyway... i thought i wanted to join right out of high school but decided i wanted to get technical training first then join ... well... i got married and had a couple of kids before i made it back to the recruiting office ... i won't join now...

me myself don't know what I want my carrer 'to be' ... but i can tell you what it currently 'is' ...

i'm taking a class here and there at the CC myself ... i figure i'll just take advantage opportunities as they come up ... i'll do just about anything if it pays enough and has good benefeits ...

i for one will not discourage you from joining the Armed Forces ... if that's where your heart is right now go for it ... i've a couple of friends i talk to that are in it for life and a few others that said they were happy they served but they don't want to do it forever ... i've yet to personally meet someone who regretted ever enlisting ...

Serving time in the military in my opnion looks good on a resume ... look at it as in investment for your future ...

Nearly 20 years in the US Army. In two weeks I'll once again be in Iraq [i/]voluntarily[i]. I regret not one minute of my service and duty to my country.

Don't like the war? Fine, sit back and wait a little while for it to get here, then decide what would have been the better move. "All it takes for evil to succeed, is for good men to do nothing".

Not everyone goes to a combat zone, support needs good people too.

the war going on right now is not a determining factor on this decision.
I would gladly fight for all this country has given me.

Sorry man, same scare tactics put forth by those that take us to war. It just doesn't pass the smell test. What proof does anyone have that they will be "in our shopping malls" as liar tony snow said today. Just in case you didn't notice, terror attacks have actually risen BIG time sence the war to "liberate" Iraq started.
Due to the objections of a certain Canadian, this space is now for rent.

Well, Bush and Evil Oil Cheney ARE planning to blow-up our malls, and kill our friends and family. It's all part of the Evil Corporations unholy allegience with Bush and BIG OIL. Yes Tony Snow is a Liar... an evil henchman liar of Conservative hate-mongers. They (evil mean conservatives) all want to detroy America and put money in their pockets with the blood of the poor.

Yea, I love the way people support our troops and our country! You are awesome!
                    BACK ON TOPIC...

I think you should listen to everyone that has served, and realize that they all have opinions that may or may not differ. Then, look at facts, real important information, of what each branch has to offer. Don't listen to certain people who only see the negative in everything. Go with facts, and TRUSTED opinions. Anyone, can get on the news or AO and spew hate, and bash our country. That is just how some people are. Realize how big of a contribution has been made by all that have served. People have the right to run thier mouths because people died to give them that right.

You will probably find the right branch and job for you, if you do enough research. I have a brother who is a tank commander, and another who is in intel. There are many options. I definately think the military will give a person a sense of direction and purpose.
I am so thankful, sincerely thankful, for those serving in our military for protecting me, my friends, my family, and the freedoms I have.

Sorry, but your statement fails the lack of ignorance test.

There used to be a small shopping mall in the World Trade Center. Seems to me, they're already here, hmm?

The Senate and House are adrift in lawyers, yet not one...not ONE...has brought forth any proof of lies, deceit, or illegalities of the last 6 years of the Bush administration. As easily as Clinton was impeached for lying to the Grand Jury, it would should be 100X easier to impeach and remove from office George Bush.........

                        ......yet nothing.

Terror attacks have simply become more publicized AS terror attacks since 9/11. Before that, they were "isolated events" related to middle east and European factions. The USA has been under terror attacks from middle east concerns since after WWII.

Islam wants you dead. That's all there is to it.

LoL, I "supported" our troops by doing 8 years, so yeah, I can and do have an opinion. You are not the only one that signed up, and did his duty Army, so step on off your high horse buddy. Plus I always love how when someone says our soldiers should leave were they are being killed, people always say "you're not supporting the troops". Ummmmm, I think not wanting another soldier to die is the ultimate support, but I guess I'm wrong. I guess being a volunteer at the USO isn't supporting the troops. I guess gathering thngs soldiers need to make their life a bit easier, (baby wipes, batterites, pogie bait, phone cards....) isn't supporting the troops. You're right, I should just give up.

Yeah back on topic. You will find a service branch that is for you. Just remember, you are allowed to keep your own ethics and morales. Don't forget that just because you do a job, doesn't mean you can't think on your own and have an opinion on things that effect YOUR life. Some people here have forgotten that.
