I want to start playing the bass really soon, so I have a question. What would be a good biginner bass package? I don't have a lot of cash to spend, but I plan to upgrade soonif I reallylike playing.

The squire bass pack is a very nice deal. My little brother one got one and he seems to be happy with it. Squire in general is usually a great value for beginners.

I got the Yamaha RBX-170 and I love it;
This has a great sound and a really meaty neck, which adds to the sustain.
The only thing I did to it was have the guys at Sam Ash take the stock plastic nut off the end and replace it with a Corian one. The Corian nut really adds even more sustain, where as the plastic nut tends to dampen the string vibrations more.
I am actually a 6 string guitar player. I play out live and get paid to do weddings and stuff. I bought this bass only as a back up to have in case I was asked to play bass. So I only spent $170 for the bass on sale, and $25 for the Corian nut mod, but I get great compliments on my sound all the time when I play this bass. Professional musicians do a double take and can't believe I am only playing an "entry" model bass.
As for an amp, look for a small used practice amp from Guitar Center, Sam Ash, or a big name place. Hope this helps.Comment

best bang for the buck, i have played many of these now and they are miles ahead of any squier. and they are cheaper.Comment
