    SPAM gets threatening!!

The latest spam I found in my inbox:

    ***************
This is the only way I could contact you for now,I want you to be
    very
careful about this and keep this secret with you until I make out
space for us to see. You have no need of knowing who I am or where I
    am
from.I know this may sound very surprising to you but it's the
situation.i have been paid some ransom in advance to terminate you
    with some reasons
listed to me by my employer. It's someone I believe you call a
friend, I have followed you closely for a while now and have seen that you
are innocent of the accusations he leveled against you.Do not contact
    the
police or try to send a copy of this to them, because if you do, I
will know, and might be pushed to do what I have been paid to
this is the 1st time I turn out to be a betrayer in my job.I took
pity on you, that is why I have made up my mind to help you if you are
    willing to help yourself.

Now listen,I will arrange for us to see face to face, but before
    that,
I need $8000. I will come to your home or you determine where you
wish we meet;I repeat, do not arrange for the cops and if you play hard
to get, it will be extended to your family.Do not set any camera to
cover us or set up any tape to record our conversation, my employer is in
my control now. Payment details will be provided for you to make a
    part
payment of $4000 first, which will serve as guarantee that you are
ready to co-operate,then one of my boys will deliver a copy of the
    video tape
to you that contains his request for me to terminate you(I tape recorded
our conversation),which will be enough evidence for you to take any
legal action against him.i advice you be fast about this before he employs
another person for the job. You will pay the balance of $4000 once
    you receive the tape.
Warning; do not contact the police, make sure you stay indoors once
it is 7.30pm until this whole thing is sorted out,if you neglect
any ofthese warnings, you will have yourself to blame. You do not have
much time,so get back to me immediately

Note:I will advise you keep this to yourself alone, not even a
friend or a family member should know about it because it could be one
    of them.
contact me for now on this e mail:"

    ************

    Madness!!!

    Kinda creepy actually.

Anybody want me to will them my paintball gear in case I receive teh termination?

its really sick how these people pray on people that are this insecure, and of course, there ARE people that would do this, im sure you guys know people that would fall for it too.

but then again, getting back at scammers is PRICELESS:

I had a mail bomb program several years back that if anyone sent me that crap it could respond to them until their mailbox was full or it crashed their mail server

I used it on my office manager whenever she sent me those Bill Gates wants to pay you money emails.

A friend of mine worked at a bank in a rather wealthy area (multi-million dollar houses are common). She said the number of people who fell for the Nigerian scam was amazing. She also said that a lot of them, no matter what you told them refused to listen. She said there was one person who came in 3 or 4 times to send more money and every time the bank would tell them they were being scammed. Problem is, it's their money, they can do what they want. So, these scams obviously work.

Problem is 99.999999% of spammers don't use their own mail server, so the server you just crashed was some poor sap who let relayed mail pass through their server. Most spammers also use a fake return address, so in many cases your response doesn't even get back to them.

The problem is the mail protocol and standards are outdated. If they changed the way email was sent/received, they could eliminate 99% of spam.

Mail server? You think people who think mail bombing is a good idea know how to read headers?

Fact: The "From" address is faked on the vast majority of scam and spam messages.

Fact: The vast majority of "servers" used to send scam and spam mail are compromised hosts.

Don't fight abuse with abuse. These are funny messages to look at and ponder why someone would fall for them. These messages are not something you should respond to in any way.

Keep asking him exactly what he wants from you, even after he has explained it.

I was tempted to do several things, like ask him to come meet me for the initial drop off, or alert the authorities (seriously! your mind starts to drift late at night with the lights off after receiving a death threat!), or start trying to do in the 419eater fashion and see if I could get him to send me money (FTW!).

I figure the first money would have to be bank wired, or money-ordered, or some other non-face-to-face transfer, so it wouldn't even be worth my time to start messing around with.

Would be funny to tell the guy to meet me at an address that is a police station.
