    can they do this?

NBC announced today that the M.A.H.R. (Mothers Against Hard Rock) Foundation is trying to outlaw The Used and My Chemical Romance from 45 states across America. They are petitioning for it as we speak and if they get more signatures then those against it, then the bands (as well as many others including From First To Last, Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, and Darkest Hour.) will be banned from most of the United States.

    uhh, what.

how can they tell people they cant make music anymore, because they dont like it. theres music i dont like. im not standing outside trying to ban it, how stupid are people.

You can start a petition for anything, doesn't mean that it will do anything... Last time I looked, MAHR had no legislative power within the USA.

Medic is right. You can petition for anything. And, they can get scads of names, it doesnt mean anything. First, its a free speech issue. If you start banning one type of music, then, pretty soon, there is no music. Dont worry about it, they are just trying to get publicity for their cause.

WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

You all say that, but it would not be hard to get these bands banned in different states. See, there is the whole free speech thing, but concerts don't fall under that. There have been many bands banned from different states from everything from drug possession, to peeing on the Alamo, to pulling their wang out on stage, to swearing too much in a public place. I am sure if they really wanted to, they can find something on just about every band out there, that could get them banned from different states.

Now, there would be no way to stop the sale of albums, just performing in public.

Show me the press release from NBC or any proof that MAHR really exists. I think someone is yanking your chain.

Isn't MCR emo music? How has emo become hard rock? Blah, nothing is rock anymore anyways. It's either pop, metal, or emo. True rock is dead. No one has the talent for it anymore lol.

They should ban 80% of the music that has been released on a major label in the last 10 years.

Thankfully for MAHR, Bush has been slowly dismantling that thing on that piece of paper since he got into office.

On the flip side (as mentioned), if they can ban a music form, we should theoretically be able to ban them, using the same rules.
